| Tonight really emphasised how much we need a quality kicker. It really does make 20 or 30 yards difference in every set of 6. It is just a pity that none of our players have a good kicking game. Brough is the only one that really springs to mind and he isnt going to get picked.

1230.gif “You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”:1230.gif |

There are no British players with a kicking game.
Oh I forgot you are a Leeds fan and all Leeds players are perfect (This has been a common theme on all England threads over the past few weeks).

Sinfield can do it for club but obviously not for country. Totally agree with you, a good kicking game makes a massive difference, and last night it was non existent.

Sinfield, Burrow and Mcguires kicking game in the grand final was almost flawless.
Some of the post on here are hilarious. England play the first game and play very rusty like a side that hasn't played together before (strange that!). England get through the game with a win, yes it wasnt a good performance but it was a win. Yes it is a big ask to match the quality of the Kiwi's and Australians, but people saying Brough and Keith Mason with save us from a beating are deluded at best! Smith has picked what he thinks is the best squad to do the job, why do people think panicking after a win in the opening game and bringing in players who aren't in the squad, changing the team totally is going to do anything for the team as a whole?? Do people really think bringing in Keith Mason is going to make the England team a better one, seriously??
As for the halves we need at least one of them that is used to playing and winning in big games, McGuire has to keep his spot, personally Id keep the team pretty much the same as continuity can be a good thing.
We can beat both the Kiwis and the Australians, they are not super human and I hope that the English players have that attitude, the players need to rise to the occasion and what better occasion than playing Australia in our own backyard, some of the posts on here are just typical RL whinging, of course we don't have the talent that the Aussies and Kiwis have but we have to go with what we've got, and as I say anything can happen.

So who do you pick, a player who is in form and been kicking impeccably for his club, or someone who may or may not kick well, I thought people wanted players picked on form?
FWIW I don't think Peacock is the right man for a captain, Sinfield would be better in that role as I think that's what makes him tick.
A good captain is not necessarily the best player.

Yes I'm a leeds fan but do you not agree with my first sentence?
When was the last time anyone played that great for GB/England, its hard to tell when we are getting battered about.
But I ask you again, do you want the national team to be picked on form?

Thought so as it is quite obvious and no I dont agree.

I am not talking about playing great, I am talking about a good kicking game and that is my point. It is a long, long time since I saw anyone kick well playing for England or GB. The kicking gane is a big reason why we keep losing.

Who you think is playing on form and who I do is obviously different. Sinfield has never played well for England/GB and in my opinion simply isnt international standard. He is a decent player who is a good goal kicker who does well in a good team. I wouldnt say he is a particularly good field kicker though. Put him is the Salford or Wakefield teams and see how good he is then.

There's a considerable difference between kicking to Wellens and Gardner and kicking to Slater and Hayne.

You don't agree they kicked well in the GF? did you watch a different game to me.
Your last point is pure conjecture, Sinfield doesn't play for Salford he plays for Leeds, a team he has captained to 4 GF wins and 3 of them in a row, he has played well all season and was MOM in the biggest game of the year so far, is that not what you would call on form?
If you are calling on form players that have played well for England before then I'm afraid we wouldn't be able t get a starting 13.
your right though maybe we shuld fill the national team with out of form players from the lower placed sides, that would show em!
