| Quote: Jeff the God of Biscuits "We can gloss over it as best we want. Some people in this country are very bigotted and still live in the dark ages. Why a person's sexuality needs to be anyone else's business is beyond me. A person is a person and whatever they do in their private life has nothing at all to do with the general public. I understand why Gareth has come out and I understand that young homosexual Rugby players can look up to him and see him as an example that it isn't wrong to be who you are. But the fact is we shouldn't be having to look for a top name to come out to make people think it's 'ok to be gay'. it's okay to be whoever and whatever you want, [iaslong as you're not hurting another human being in the process[/i I say be who you want to be.'"
I'm led to believe lots of lubrication is essential to be certain of this - sorry, couldn't resist!!
On a serious note, in such a macho sport as RL there are many reasons why players may not want to 'come out' don't want to be the first, what will team mates/fans think, will there be a backlash etc.
IMO as many others say, if nobody is being harmed or hurt against their will, who cares.
When I played, two of the lads were as thick as thieves off the pitch. Nobody really cared but most of the lads thought they were gay. They didn't actually 'come out' when they finished playing but they are openly a couple and have been for donkeys years.

This has not been acertained, just like what makes someone intelligent - nature or nurture. It's not something as simple as lack of/overbearing mother/father figure or excessive/lack of testosterone/estrogen.

It makes the papers, bet if he "came out" as a heterosexual it wouldn't have. Which makes it newsworth, which means that it is an issue for some people hence validating the whole coming out in the first place.

Standing up to the forum bully.
It must be working, he doesn't like me...i'm devastated: |

No, he was a winger. I think the poster was referring to the guy (ex centre) who was involved in the David Lloyd set up when he was in charge at both Hull fc and Hull city.

Years ago, I was beaten up by a gang of 'Tetley Bittermen' due to being a punk. Car pulls up, guys get out and give you a kicking. It was a common occurrence in Bradford in those days. The [ireason[/i for being attacked was of no comfort to you. You got attacked for being different. Gays do not have a monopoly on getting singled out.
On the subject of the Union player though, if he gives comfort to a troubled person somewhere then good for him. There is the Quentin Crisp film on this Xmas, now he was someone with bollox, a real brave man.

I don't understand what you are trying to say. Leeds Pride had over 17,000 people turn up to the free event this year, some of whom were indeed children. Other children were watching whist shopping too.

| My lesbian ex regularly takes her eldest son on Pride marches, and he's as straight as they come... I'd sort his girlfriend out any day of the week.
BTW why the need to write 'gay' with a capital 'G'?

I don't know what his point is, but I find the term "gay child" disturbing.

| To be honest it's understandable if any gay rugby player is reluctant to come out even in this day and age. Remember around '97 Tim Wilby receiving a lot of verbal abuse, chants etc from Rovers fans, and he wasn't even a player! (was Hull's Chairman at the time).
Think the same happened with Paul Eastwood, but this was slightly before my time so can't remember it personally.

25852_1297892995.jpg You've stolen my washing
From out my back garden
You've tarmacked my driveway
Even though I said no
You've nicked my lead flashing
And weighed it in at the scrappy
Oh St Helen's tatters
Come rob me again:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_25852.jpg |

| The whole thing with Paul Eastwood stemmed from the time he was allegedly caught in the bogs at Willerby with his trousers round his ankles. George Michael pinched the idea from him. S'troo.

And George Michael was rumoured to have had a fling with Wilby, small world eh.
