In a couple of his lengthy statements, he has accepted blame, (if you search hard enough!) especially in defence of Keiron Cunningham. However, you are right, it is entirely the blame of Leigh club, that they are now in this situation. We didn't hear anyone at Leigh moaning about the structure, when we used it to gain promotion, or when we were gifted an extra £500k by the SL clubs, as a golden opportunity to try to get back into SL. We simply employed the wrong group of players, who only learned what the Championship was about, when it was too late to overhaul five sides who were better prepared for it. We are where we are, because of what we did wrong.

Quote: Call Me God "Is it?
:WALL: HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover. There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT::d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_76030.jpg

Quote: Mr Dog "Both are being built by different developers with different reasons for throwing a FREE stadium into their plan so the answer to your question actually is yes. If those 2 clubs really were going to share a stadium it would have to be somewhere slap bang between them and neither the 2 clubs have the combined resources nor are there 'investors' around to fund that.'"

Has either developer broken ground yet? I ask because back in 2008 when licenses were handed out both clubs seemed very sure they'd be built inside 18 months.....

The Calder merges into the Aire just before Castleford so and merged team should be called Airedale. Airedale petty criminals or Airedale benefit scroungers would be a good franchise name.

pretty sure Caslelford have been banging on about new stadium since about 2003. they still bang on about it being started already, but all that has happens is somebody has put a fence up and cleared some top soil.

But the whole point is Derek Beaumont chose to do so knowing he would almost certainly not see the money he put in again, and through a combination of his own bad decisions and entrusting key positions to people not up to the job he has failed and left himself and the club considerably worse off then if he hadn't bothered in the first place.

If you choose to spend your money on something and don't do appropriate due diligence around key hires etc. you only have yourselves to blame if you do not get what you intended out of it.

I am sure that when he looks back on his time at Leigh, there are lots of things he would do differently if he had his time again.

No reserves, but resilience, persistence and determination are omnipotent.:

Quote: RLRealist "I'd like you to put a few million into RL and see f'all from it.....'"

With director loans, and other methods of retrieving money from sports clubs, the exact monies put in is never confirmed.

Will the club be in a better or worse position than when he started?

To have the salary cap the same as Super League clubs he put down a bond with the RFL.

rlPenultimate Paragraphrl

We'll never know how much that bond was.I presume he has retrieved it.

As the reserve side and academy is no more- the tv money is more or less the salary cap - was his payments for LSV as much as Dr Koukash had to pay for losses through low attendances at Salford on a par?

It seems two rich people have come into the sport - DB for the second time - and some may say the change is negligible.

At least Salford remain in Super League.

Paul Rowley invited DB to the club, apparently, yet now the coaching position is uncertain for 2019,and players are still to go elsewhere.

Difficult, from the outside,to see a great difference from the start, and at the finish.

How can things improve for the next individual rich investor who would like to enter the sport?

Very few clubs own stadia and very few clubs have player pathways which lead to consistent success.

Nor is their a plethora of home grown talent making good on the international stage;seemingly reliant on NRL players.

Licensing and 8's tried. What next? Where will the money come from?

Nothing AFAIK at Newmarket (at least for the stadium). At Glasshoughton there's been a couple of drains dug but that's it (major groundworks needed for the build and potentially coal extraction + full planning still to be granted). The timeline shows major roadworks to start Q2/3 this year so only a few weeks to go before that target has slipped, and as yet there are no indications that anything will be starting anytime soon. Cas' last proposed ground on the other side of the road was more advanced than this with the ground levelled and full planning in place; the only slight problem than was no money.

i live in the area and Wakefield met is ridiculous that there is a site with full planning permission adjacent to the Xscape complex right next to M62 about 6 miles from Wakefied and yet neither club has any money or will not mortage themselves to jointly fund a shared stadium, plus Wakefied council could partially fund it. 3 way split 10 million or so each. a 20 year mortgage works out about 1.5 million ish each per year that's only the sky money. Leeds have borrowed to redevelop headingley. if clubs don't want to invest in there own infrastructure and refuse to share why should anybody else just give them something for free.
the other site, well Cas fans are deluded if they think one brick will be laid on there new ground until the shopping complex is both build and all units are filled.

1. Even both clubs combining their resources would not provide anywhere near enough money and who exactly would actually offer them a loan?
2. WMDC haven't got a pot to piddle in and stumping up the ca£10m you suggest wouldn't go down well with the 80odd thousand inhabitants of the district who aren't attendees of the 2 clubs especially considering the cuts of the last few years
3. Both use their Sky money to pay off the mortgage (if they could borrow of course)? So how exactly will they fund running a SL rugby club?
4. Yes, nothing will be built at Glasshoughton until both enough of the units are let to service the loans required for the project and also start to make a profit but, if stadium ever gets built it has to be completed and handed over BEFORE the retail park can open to customers - if you bothered to look up the plan, the stadium build starts before the retail units.

Great post, it sums up the situation perfectly.
