Rugby league can either harness the interest in PNG (that has seen lock outs of well over 15,000 for second level QCup games in 2015) or ignore it. No surprise that those under the Nahavo blanket choose the latter.
Properly organised, PNG has the potential for crowds between 30-50K (as alluded to by their PM recently) during the RLWC 2017 - the size of those crowds solely subject to stadium capacity in Moresby.

I'd be amazed if it wasn't October/November. Given the structure of both leagues is February/March to early October, hard to see it being anything else. |

The PMs XIII game has been very good for PNG up till this year.
It has been funded by the Australian government as a foreign aid initative.
The NRL probably couldn't afford to send a fully insured side to play in PNG every year at a massive loss.
Now that PNG is a bit richer as a country, and they have a new 16k stadium, maybe a proper test match could pay for itself.
