BSkyBs coverage was enjoyable and an entertaining programme years ago but nowdays it is becoming stagnant and stale. I know it's been mentioned probably countless times on this site for the past few years but it really is time for a shake-up. Eddie and Mike are behind the times and introducing gimmicks such as the televised video ref decision and the margin meter (I'm still none the wiser) isn't going to work. If long time rugby fans don't get it then sure as Hell any newcomer to the game aren't going to understand it.

The video ref should be at every game and be done by other people than refs which will give more consistency! As for the replays when it's the video ref it's them who control how many times it's done and from which angle etc....

I don't share these views. The coverage is top, top quality. The camera work is the best in sport and the production is one of the best in the world; it's an extremely high quality programme.

Just compare BSkyB's footage to the BBC. Sky have it nailed.

(The commentators are not included in my assessment, by the way. On mute, it's one of the nicest looking sport shows I've ever seen.)

The thing that annoys me the most is if there's an error or penalty and they'll replay it a couple of times and then still be talking about it 5 or 10 minutes later if a try has been scored. That's what I like about the NRL viewing, they just get on with it.

The only annoying aspect with the multiple replays IMO is that they have started to miss things in games that are happening (such as penalty kicks not reaching touch or the ball being lost on the first play or somebody breaking the line) due to showing excessive and often pointless replays. They have missed such incidents this season showing replays of pointless things like players talking to teammates, or by showing a 5th or 6th replay of the same minor incident like a knock on at the PTB.

If they want to analyse individual incidents at length then let Jon Wells do it at HT/FT when nothing of the game will be missed. That's what they have so many pundits for anyway.

And then they show a replay of what they missed while showing the previous replay. STOP IT!!!

Fox Sports have some replays displayed in a small box in the right corner, then live action isn't missed. If there is a stoppage or try, then of course they go full screen.

Channel 9 just does full screen replays, they don't miss live action though.

Sky stop trying to create controversy at every opportunity.

As for replays during the action, they should copy what Fox do in Aus, and have a little box in the corner of the screen. Sky and Fox are the same company, I can't see why their production should be so different. Ok, it's not all that different, but it is a little different.
