Not if they are RL club Chairmen , you cant , they really dont understand the concept that they are not actually in competition with each other from a business point of view

| I could never grasp that concept. Your competitions the cinema, the bars on a friday night, the local union team, soccer side, sky tv et al; no one from Leighs going to go and watch Widnes so bar some crossovers (bradford/keighley) clubs should work together in combined marketing.
I still say the RFL should appoint, off their own backs, regional marketing managers to benefit 4 or 5 clubs in an area as, imo, chairman are incapable of doing it properly.

You are totally correct , running a local civil building company or an engineering co does quite often not involve any marketing at all
With a regional manager , each club supplying one person you then have a marketing team of people who would be motivated , working one week a month per club , you then chip in with shared ' facilities ' , say an advertising trailer , possibly a marquee and liveried vehicles
A managers meeting every month to share idea's , what worked what didn't , overseen by a senior excecutive , who would also do the rounds helping out clubs

| The trailors a good idea, or even someone with a board stood on asda/tesco/delete as appropriate car park handing out flyers, you'd need like one volunteer that youd give a free ticket or two to.
As for the joint venture; i cannot believe something so simple hasnt been implemented already

That is not workable , a totally soul destroying job , thats why you need a team of people , preferably ones that
1 Are motivated , quite often people work for the clubs because they are supporters rather than just for the money
2 Are doing it full time [ albeit for a different club each week ] and have been trained and are being overseen by a manager overseen

So you expect Wigan to share their marketing ideas on attracting new fans with Leigh, despite the fact that a new fan for Leigh is a fan Wigan now cant attract.
I can see now why Club Chairmen didnt take your advice on teaching other clubs how to cannibalise their market.

I agree it isnt a totally perfect idea in practice - but it does have some foundation in reality. Why shouldnt clubs get together to share best practice on ticketing, marketing, merchandise - all overseen by an RFL official. If Leeds have a good idea, Saints should look to how they can take that idea and make the most of it and vice versa.
If the clubs were that bothered about competing on a business level, you could easily split it into subgroups - with directly competing clubs kept apart from each other.

It would be a perfectly reasonable idea if clubs each had their own market, but whilst they overlap such a huge amount, its simply ridiculouse
Quote: saints35 bulls0 "If the clubs were that bothered about competing on a business level, you could easily split it into subgroups - with directly competing clubs kept apart from each other.'" It would still be getting clubs to share ideas on how to strengthen their competitors.
The better answer would be not to have so many clubs so close together so that they each had a large enough market for it not to be an issue

It was a Championship club idea only
One reason is that SL clubs should have the money and the expertise to do it all for themselves , and there is much more overlap between the clubs and therefore more competition for fans, sponsors and corporate support
Also as I couldn't give a toss wether they go bust or not , they are not allowed to use any of my idea's
In the championships apart from Batley/Dewsbury there is very little if any overlap and the support bases are much more localised
In fact the Rams and the Bulldogs have already collaberated successfully , the famous ' ducking stool ' match drew what I think is the largest heavy woolen attendance for a league match for a long time , in fact those two clubs would quite possibly benifit more than any other by working together , as they could use their rivalry to best effect
