| Quote: crucrucrusaders "For me the weekend has to have several different things to succeed.
Marketing - The RFL need to spend money advertising and marketing the game down here. Even if it needs Alfie and Iestyn to go into schools, and I mean literally every one, giving them a 2 for 1 voucher with a child attending the match for free with a full paying adult. They could also show them a quick video and get them excited for the event. These tickets could be for the top tier that was shut this weekend so no loss on that front.'"
i would offer every person that was going to attend a Wales 6 nations game this year a ticket to MM for a fiver. if there were 75 000 people in attendance for the Wales England game, then a 1.5% take up would be an extra 1000 people there.
i would have done something similar with the Cardiff City fans that were in the City on Saturday afternoon. Once their game had finished at 5pm, get them in the ground with a cheap ticket for the Wigan Sts game.
if i was the RFL, i would be employing Gareth Thomas to sell absolutely every aspect of RL in Wales for the next year. starting with the 4 nations games that Wales will be hosting, and then straight into the Magic Weekend off the back of that.
the RFL is doing some really good ticket bundle offers with the Challenge Cup and Grand Final, there is no reason the same cant be done in Wales with the 4 nations and MM.
also, i would be promoting Welsh RL in the stadium between matches. Scorpians play here, there are X number of amateur teams in this area etc etc.
The MM concept is really good theres no reason it cant help develop the game in Wales, and promotoe the game at a national level at the same time.
My main criticism is that arriving at Cardiff Central, there was no advertising to be seen, no highlighting that the weekend was taking place. Hopefully there were activities and events in the city centre, but between the train station and the stadium, all i noticed was a poster in a bar advertising it as 'the official pre and post match venue of MM'.

| great concept and enjoyed watching most of the games on the TV. The RFL just need to get better at marketing to the Welsh public and somehow get another 10K+ locals along.

| I enjoyed the whole experience, will go where ever it is next year. I know before somebody posts that Saturday was probably our last MM for at least 3 years, but i willl go back for the chance to meet up with other RL fans again.

Why are you assuming that Welsh football supporters would want to come and watch 2 English sides play a game of Rugby league?

| I guess with the marketing side of things was that the games were advertised on ITV but only in Granada & Yorkshire. Maybe they could have done ITV Wales & West along with S4C.

| Went for the weekend (Friday-Monday) - we've attended all of the magic weekends and although Edinburgh was cheaper (camp site) you can't beat Cardiff. Location, location, location.
Met some lovely supporters of other teams and apart from my team losing, had a great time. Just wish they would put it back to the 2nd bank holiday in May.

| Alot of people slate the Millenium magic experience and most of them are people that couldn't be bothered to make the trip down. Yes I know alot of people can't afford it. I've certainly being in that position but when you have people mocking the event due to it's attendance and they say in the same breath I've never being to the MM and will never go. It's rubbish the crowds are crap and the RFL should scrap it you then have to laugh. If all supporters could buy in to what the RFL are trying to achieve then this could be an amazing way to start our season every year. If you don't go for whatever reason then fair enough just don't knock it if you can't be bothered to get yourself down to Cardiff and sample the experience. I think the event should stay and i can see 100% that if the RFL stick with this it will grow just like the grand final has.

| I really enjoyed it, much better having it back in Cardiff than Edinburgh for a few reasons. Firstly, the location of the Millennium Stadium is so much better tan Murrayfield, due to it being in the town centre, so there were more places for the fans to mix. It was much colder in Edinburgh last year than it was in Cardiff too.
The thing I've always liked about the magic weekends is the way that the fans all mix, outside in the pubs and also in the ground there are opposition fans mixing with each other and having a laugh. Warrington fans were mixing with Saints fans in the Wigan vs Saints game and bar 2 incidents there was no trouble. I hope that they carry it on in the first game of the season even though the quality of rugby wasn't as good, but we watched every game still and enjoyed it. It certainly did what was talked about, starting the season with a bang, the media coverage was much better in the newspapers and we even got a mention on Sky Sports News!
Roll on Millennium Magic 2012!

| Good to see that overall most people really seemed to enjoy the weekend.
It's a pity more people didn't come but as people have said it's fairly soon after Christmas, it wasn't a bank holiday weekend and a lot of people are finding things a bit tight on the old money front.

| Enjoyed it (especially as a London fan). We drove down Saturday morning and stayed in Aberdare about 1 hour north of Cardiff (Merthyr way). Booked early at a Premier Inn and a lovely pub called the Falcon Inn. Trained it there and back on Saturday £20 return for 5 of us. Watched all 7 matches, only problem was getting to the pub (amazing local beers) at nearly 11 pm - little time to sample them. Parked up near to the stadium Sunday morning - great little market by the Taff river - purchased home cooked Indian food and local cheeses and picnic'd during the 3 matches. Not too much atmosphere during most of the games (sat at pitch level on 35 yard line) as people tended to watch their own matches and go which was a shame. Good value at £25 for both days I thought. Got home in under 4 hours which is a improvement on Quins matches up north.
Great start to the season and a fair amount of press in the papers I have seen - some negative but at least RL tries these initiatives. Could only hold this event where there is a roof - it was cold on Saturday ...

| Went down to Cardiff , friday to monday with my partner and eight year old son
Positives
Great B&B
RL fans
Not to much hassle getting back and forth from the stadium
Locals were great.
Stadium close to town.
Engage Mutual Family Lounge
Things that could be improved upon
Stadium seemed to be difficult to navigate compared to Murrayfield
Not a great deal of variety of food on offer.
More attractions for kids around the stadium.( There was a variety of things on the training pitches at Murrayfield last year)
We enjoyed MM on the whole and would attend again if a weekend of RL was on offer in Cardiff next year.

i think that is the cross to bear for the location of the stadium im afraid. as i said above i was disapointed that little was done outside the ground to grab the attention of people in the town centre.

Yes, people are finding money tight, but, we have all known that the event would be held since last year. I know it's only 9 months since the last one, but it will be at least 12 months to the next one. Our weekend cost us a total of about £250 including return train travel, hotel and match tickets which, if anyone fancies a go next year, is about £5 per week to save up for it. It was a great weekend, I got the feeling that Cardiff embraced the concept more that Edinburgh did, we were approached by the manager of the wetherspoons pub near the bus station and asked where he could get team flags so he could put them up next year. He was amazed at the godd natured banter between fans and said he had never experienced a weekend like it in 13 years as a pub manager. Maybe it only needs 2 or 3 like him to spread the gospel and next year might be a bigger success still. The only gripe I have is the cost of food and drink in the ground, £6.60 for a pie and a pint and that was a special price! It's a bit much for us tight Yorkshire folk, but they don't seem to mind you taking food in to the ground so that's what we did. Can't wait for the next one!
