Reminds me a bit when Steadman and Mercer coached Cas. Great players but out of their depth in the coaching game. We brought unknowns in like Van Der Velde and Stuart Raper who were far better.

| Quote Gallanteer="Gallanteer"A couple of years ago here I stated McDermot wasn't really a great coach, but he had inherited a self managed team of strong players that were just starting to retire. I was of course shouted down.'"
2017 largely put pay to it was the old guard. Yes McGuire came good in the playoffs but wasn’t really that good during the regular season and Burrow barely got minutes with Parcell’s Dream Team form.
And we started fine in 2018 being top 4 after 10 rounds. Problem was we didn’t sign any props when McDermott badly needed some. Galloway didn’t play and announced his retirement a few weeks into the season. Garbutt only played 2 of the opening 16 rounds. Peteru only played 3 of the opening 21 rounds. Cuthbertson missed rounds 3-10. Then when he came back Singleton then missed rounds 12, 13 & 15-18. Add in Mullally then the 6 front line props at the start of the year made a total of 45 appearances between them before McDermott was sacked after Round 20. That’s 7.5 appearances per prop in 20 games. Any coach whether at Leeds or any other SL club would struggle if they went so long being so low on props.
Question is why didn’t we splash the cash for McDermott to get desperately needed props but gladly gave Sinfield two marquees and big offers to other clubs HB’s this year. A top quality prop to replace the retired Galloway and another decent standard prop brought in during 2018 when we were still in the top 4 spots and we could’ve stayed there or at the very least come close.

This is the same Hetherington who brought Leeds there most successful period EVER and I mean EVER, what an utter load of dross even for you.

Interesting and nice to hear why Furner went after Sinfield avoided saying.'"
Very interesting- what this tells you is GH took the opinion of a man with little experience who’s been elevated immediately into a top job over someone with years of experience in coaching.
Ironically Sinfield is the wrong man in the wrong job.

GH is no fool doubt he blundly just took Sinfields side if things clearly GH was not happy with the start under furner either and was coming to a similar conclusion. If he was in the same line if thinking as Furner then Sinfield would have gone. Its obvious that Furner wanted to keep blaming the tools he had and was not prepared to or capable of getting the best out off what he had. A blunt axe will still chop down a tree with enough effort.

How do you get to that from Sinfield offering his resignation?
Hetherington has a 20 year working relationship with Sinfield so knows the kind of man he is, seeing a working relationship break down so fundamentally that one of them had to go, he opted to keep the guy he trusts the most. That's common sense.
The only opinion Hetherington took was his own.

I think the key thing is that Sinfield is being groomed to have this and more of GH’s role for many many years to come. IF (and it’s an IF) he turns it around he could be here for another 20 years. Furner was 3 years and most likely returning to Australia afterwards. Think that was a key problem really, the rebuilding of the squad to a competitive one was at best case scenario going to take 3-4 years.....which is exactly when Furner would’ve been leaving. What good is that to a guy who will have had in his hopes to impress those Down Under into offering him a head coaches gig in a few years time?

So your saying he opted to keep the guy who picked the wrong guy?
You don’t think this 20 year relationship he has is clouding his judgement?
Sinfield has done the wrong thing staying at Leeds. He should have gone out and learnt new stuff from elsewhere- as clearly carrying on with the old stuff isn’t working for this particular set of players. But he has no experience of anything else. JP and maguire got it right,
“Legends” staying at the club and taking on big responsibilities early on doesn’t seem to work Sinfield, Cunningham, Long.....

Like in many walks of life if a Director hires the wrong employee and goes to his boss and say think we made a mistake hiring this guy, its the employee not the director that will go.
Are you suggesting GH should have got rid if Sinfield and kept the ‘wrong guy’ instead?
It’s clear many people including a lot of Leeds fans are willing for Sinfield to fail, it’s a very British trait we like to see successful people fail for some reason.
Sinfield was employed to implement a long term strategy to turn the club around he has insisted there is no quick fix and it will take time if he and GH thought Furner wasn’t the right coach to implement their plan than it’s best to sort that out rather than let it carry on

No Leeds fans are willing for him to fail, some are just rightly judging him based on what he’s done in this role so far, not what he did on the pitch.
