| Quote: Dunbar "And my point remains – by the time it is recognised that ‘banter’ has turned to discrimination it is too late'" banter doesnt turn to discrimination, it is a huge jump.
Quote: Dunbar "At the same time as educating a generation that one set of differences should not be used as a negative reference (race and sexual orientation), we are quite happy to demonstrate that another difference is OK to be ridiculed
Look, I am not placing the jokes about ginger people in the same category as racism or homophobia – merely pointing out the hypocrisy'" It isnt hypocritical to understand the massively different connotations which stem from jokes and comments about different things.

A 5 minute search on the web returns news stories that include the following
“A schoolgirl was withdrawn from school after a gang of bullies threatened to kill her because of her ginger hair”
“Teachers 'did nothing' as classmates launched shocking campaign of abuse against 12-year-old with red hair”
“Three boys have been arrested for investigation of bullying red-haired students after a Facebook message promoted "Kick a Ginger Day" at a Southern California school”
Is it right to place this in the same category of seriousness as racism or homophobia? Of course not
Is it hypocritical to condone this kind of behaviour while condemning racist or homophobic abuse... of course it is
If you can’t see this, then fair enough

So what happens if Joel Monaghan has actually taken this a little more to heart than people think?
I watched him give his statement in Canberra when he explained to the media. He broke down and couldnt finish what he was saying. He was in bits.
So now he comes here... the pommie supporters give him heaps for what he's done... what if he decides it's got too much and takes the same way out as Terry Newton?
Wont be so funny then will it?

Why the hell are you quoting me in that message – where have I said on this thread that Joel Monaghan should be abused to the point that he considers taking his own life?

an even quicker search will bring you, www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-11990646 pair guilty of manslaughter for homophobic killing,
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11831556
to pretend that what faces ginger people is comparable to gays is crazy.
Why you think it is hypocritical to treat two things you dont believe are the same, and you dont believe are on the same level differently i honestly dont know.
Nobody is defending bullying, bullying in all its forms is wrong, whether it is because someone is ginger, fat, or whatever bullying is wrong. It is however different to the widespread and systematic discrimination through homophobia and racism.

I'm sure PETA won't shed any tears. If you don;t want to cop flack from the terraces then England is definately not the place you want to run to when you've committed a disgraceful act and been found out doing it! Maybe he should have gone to Japanese RU where such things are the norm!

So now you are saying that bullying and abuse does occur based on the colour of somebody's hair
I thought your previous stance was "it is either banter at best and petty name calling at worst"?
We agree then, so we can stop here. Have a nice evening
p.s. I wrote “Is it right to place this in the same category of seriousness as racism or homophobia? Of course not”... and you reply with “to pretend that what faces ginger people is comparable to gays is crazy.”
Are you even reading what I am posting?

Bazza...you remind me of an 8yr old primary school kid with a crush on a girl...but unable to understand the "feelings you are having' you instead pick on the girl when you should be courting her.
Harlequins RL remind you of your beloved sharkies (they too have a few fans and leven ess money to spend) so you try to pick on us in the hope that we will fall for you.
It ain't working pal........
