Maybe if all clubs ran themselves like a business with income and expenditure balancing themselves out, yet producing a team that can reach 5th in the league one year and a CC semi final the previous one, we might then have a sport which is not dependent on The size of TV contracts.

Unfortunately it doesnt work like that.
I believe the average crowd in SL is around 9,000.

At £18 per head, which is over the average adult ticket price and doesn't take into account concessions thats only £2.1million per year from attendances. Plus some sponsorship of say another million (I have no idea about sponsorship, it may be too low or more likely is too high) to take it to £3.1m. Take £1.6m out for player wages and that leaves only £1.5m for the club to spend on coaching staff, ground maintenence, match day costs, back office staff, board members, advertising & marketing etc.

Now obviously this is only very basic, but you get the idea that clubs desperately need that extra £1m and a bit from the Sky deal every year. Especially as there are quite a few clubs (6 of them by my count) who don't get the 9,000 average.
