| Quote: SmokeyTA "Rhys Lovegrove and Ben Fisher probably arent in the top 300 Antipodean players, so the fact that not all our best players are as good as the top Antipodean players is irrelevant. '" Rhys Lovegrove and Ben Fisher are Scottish. So that would be 8 non British players in Rovers' squad next season. Potentially only one more than Leeds (at the moment) God knows what old age pensioner of an Aussie the former champions are going to sign next. It really is pathetic.

Quote: SmokeyTA "These players being better than the players you have brought through whilst you have admittedly neglected your youth development system isnt justification for you signing them to the detriment of young british players.'" Whereas signing grandad Cross will be a positive boon to the prospects of young English players.

I have said already said Leeds have too many, would you like me to say it again?

Quote: Mrs Barista "Some reasonable points, apart from your view that there are no more than 3 decent English HBs in the competition, but this is just a bit silly IMOany team in the competition could simply list the promoted academy players they have to include in their squad to make up the homegrown quota and claim they will be the successors to their marquee overseas players. Until that actually happens, it's nonsense - writing a list of junior players that you have to have in your squad means nothing. '" The claim of only 3 'young' excellent halfbacks was a claim against us not being able to find someone as good to come through immediately, not just halfbacks on mass and was mentioned in an earlier post to smokey, maybe you missed the young up and coming part? And who else is going to replace our marquee overseas players as the quota comes domes down? The list of juniors includes Watts who played 26 games, like you say the real deal, Hodgson played 18 first team games this season but playing few minutes and looks very promising, Taylor played 3 times and hasn't looked out of his depth, made his debut in the play off game against Leeds in 2009 which is no mean feat, so 3 out of 5 isn't a nonsense and I think you are doing a disservice to all the juniors of all clubs by saying they are just there to make up the numbers, shame on you Mrs B. They are there to learn from the best and to be in and around quality players will only help them achieve the ambition of following in their footsteps. I could have mentioned Sam Latus too who played 7 times and had a mare against your lot but in all other games he looked solid especially against a large hudds team when we drew away. Cox is 6'3" and again looked good in the reserves and qualifies for the academy. Quote: Mrs Barista ", Webster was a winger for NZ I think, hence the headline here "Webster wings in" Jake Webster is joining the exodus of stars from Australia's National Rugby League to Super League for next season. The 23-year-old has secured a release from the Gold Coast Titans and will play his last game for them against his former club Melbourne Storm at Olympic Park on Sunday. The Titans did not reveal where Webster is headed but admitted he had received a "huge offer" from an English club"'" Correct.

Quote: SmokeyTA "sorry maybe the question wasnt clear. Why are you signing overseas players to replace senior british players and not young british players.'" Because a squad needs a balance of youth and experience. Craig Hall could be a decent signing, well worth a punt, but you need a few players you can rely on and that you know are ready and able. Quote: SmokeyTA "Is it really acceptable to try and seek advantage by employing more overseas players than everyone else to the detriment of young british players.'" You deal with the world as it is. Seeking an advantage within the rules is something I'm comfortable with. It isn't to the detriment of young British players IMO - Mason, Green and Hall I regard as being replacements for Cooke, Mills and Walker. It'd have been nice if Mariano, I'anson and Dominic Dee could have filled those spots, but it was not to be. I expect players to come through in ones and twos, not, typically 4s and 5s in a year. This year saw the emergence of Liam Watts, hopefully we'll get 4 or 5 more over the course of the next franchise. And - crucially - be able to hold on to the better ones. Quote: SmokeyTA "so where you have been lucky is that players like Dobson and Lovegrove who should have been quota players wont be, and when players like Vella and Galea retire they can be replaced by overseas players because the players who should be counted on the quota, arent. And it is conceivable, maybe even probable that it could be a good 10 years until Dobson and Lovegrove retire that Hull KA start playing with the quota rules as they should be, and they dont reach the quota levels the RFL expected of them last year @7 overseas players until 2020. That Hull KA are 'lucky' in the fact they can be up to 11 years behind their overseas targets. well thats something to be proud of i suppose'" Dobson is a quota player. The Lovegrove situation is a quirk of the system - he is club-trained (initially by dispensation, but he'd qualify based on the most recent iteration of the rules anyway). Who you think should and shouldn't count on the quota matters very little - the RFL decides and HKR make their choices based on that. I thought Barista was being harsh slagging us off for 2012, but 2020 - wow. Hopefully HKR will have produced a good number of SL players by then. Whether they come through playing alongside players from Cas or Canberra, St. Helens or Sydney is a reflection on others more than us.

Super league A competition between proffessional RL clubs The operative words here being Competition , ie they compete with each other on the pitch in an attempt to beat the other team ,ie score more points Proffessional , ie the players are paid for their services , generally clubs will attempt to sign the best players possible Clubs , these are the organisations set up to oversee the operations of the teams , their main concern is generally their own welfare , ie the need to remain in the comepetition , achieve as high a finishing position as they can and make sensible business decisions for their own and the teams benifit

Quote: SmokeyTA "Green isnt better than what is available, in fact i would be suprised if you had actually ever seen him play and were relying on anything but your one-eyed club bias to back up that statement. '" In your opinion Green is not better than what's available, I have never seen him play, have you? I don't have sky, but I trust the judgement of Morgan over you, how many overseas players does anyone see before they are signed if the games are not televised over here or they don't have access to them. Quote: SmokeyTA " players being better than the players you have brought through whilst you have admittedly neglected your youth development system isnt justification for you signing them to the detriment of young british players. '" Who said anything about neglecting our youth system, I said we probably havn't been able to spend as much as established sl teams simply because our income has to be spent in all areas that need improving i.e. ground improvements, facilities etc. especially in our first seasons and we are still having to spend in other areas but we are doing well and going in the right direction as I have previously commented on which you have failed to take on board. Quote: SmokeyTA " is inferior in defense, which was what he was being compared on. he doesnt miss a few more tackles, he misses lots more tackles.'" Lots is 3 a game
