No, because he forced his way into the Balmain team and was in Oz for a couple of years consecutively at Balmain and Wests and won the Golden Boot in 89 (a year he played at Wests).

Newlove was an artist. Senior - a hod carrier. As for Connolly not doing much against the Aussies - I admit he was never a great attacking threat. But the point about Connolly is very few Aussies did anything against HIM. The guy was a straightjacket to his opponent.

It isn't the be all and end all but I think the fact that whenever Edwards stepped out of his comfort zone and up to world level he was proven to be waaay out of his deapth. Criminally overrated IMO.

Why? Edwards is held up as some kind of all time greatest British scrum half, but when it came to having to do the business against the Aussies he was gash. Sheer gash. The only impact he ever made at test level was on Brad Clyde's face.
