| Steph Curry's argument relies on the fact there are people in existence out there with a tonne of money that want to throw it at some Rugby League club ina town they've never heard of. Pure delusion.

Quote Psychedelic Casual="Psychedelic Casual"City are now the fifth most profitable club in world football.

City have been self sufficient for around five years and now spend the money they make themselves rather than the owner’s money.
Sheikh Mansour will almost certainly be taking a cut of those profits.'"
Same as Kraft the patriot owner, he's been raking it in for a few years at the Patriots. operating income last season was 260million.
I'm not sure why Lebron was talking about Pat Riley, he's a president not an owner- The Heat is owned by Micky Arison does, an Israeli Billionaire and no doubt with how well the NBA are doing atm with their eyes on China and their 300 million basketball players, and annual revenue growing outside the U.S. at a rate in the high teens.
Interestingly NBA teams are more profitable than ever. In the beginning of the decade, more than half the teams in the NBA were losing money. Last year, the Cleveland Cavaliers were the only team to lose money by Forbes’ count. The average earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, is now $61 million per NBA team is double what it was two seasons ago.Teams have benefited from pro basketball’s $24 billion TV contract with TNT and ESPN. Also the collective-bargaining agreement signed in late 2011. It cut the percentage of basketball-related income going to the players from 57% to 51%..

Name a dozen "big names" who've left for Union or the NRL in the last decade. If you can, then that' just over 1 a year...hardly a drain on a 12 club comp with upwards of 360 paid professionals on their books.
Rugby League sponsors are booze, fags and bookies. Ciggies are no longer allowed, so it's booze and bookies. Booze is borderline, so now it's bookies. We are a budget sport and whether we pay SBW £2.5 million or £2.50, Microsoft aren't going to be knocking on our door soon.
Find 11 more argyles and yeah....let's play, but 1 bloke winning everything because he can outspend the rest is what we had with Wigan and that nearly killed us!

And soon there will be a cap on formula one due to teams not being able to compete with the rich teams

Let F1 do what it wants. RL outside of the heartlands is WIGAN to most folk in the UK and that's purely down to them buying the lot for a decade or more...clubs that tried to play catch up nearly died or did die.....it's a formula for disaster in a sport that get's little public attention.
The F1 calendar in 2020 is being adjusted so as not to clash with the Euro soccer thing.....the GB Lions triple header in a RU Nation went head to head with the RU World Cup.....
...finding it's ow 'arris with both hands would be a challenge for RL admins

You do realise that the F1 budget is £250m and that doesnt include drivers or principals wages.

Obviously wizzed over your head, the reason for a cap so it's not the same team winning all the time else there wouldn't be any reason to participate or is that what you want a 4 -6 team league, I see Leeds couldn't keep within the rules of the game last season
The game still needs the smaller cubs. With the promotion and relegation you are more likely to lose the smaller clubs unless you get the bigger clubs unless they fall apart like Leeds did in which your most likely to bounce back

The guy at Wigan wasn't in the same league as the consortium behind Toronto but, I agree with your point and in a limited market, Toronto will just increase wage inflation.
Nobody would begrudge any players getting a better contract but, the sport over here just cant afford it.

The average gate in the top division then was 7292 in 1989 when Widnes could keep up with Wigan, but that dropped to 5543 in 1995 by which time Wigan had won 21 cups in 7 years or thereabouts. One team winning all the time created a massive crisis and we were saved by a salary capped Superleague.
No disrespect to Wigan, their success was the foundation for a brilliant Junior game that has produced many players we started to see at Bradford in Superleague following their successes (Noble should be reminded that the game is nothing without player development). Noble should be reminded Wigan bought in some fantastic players at the height of their powers, not a man who is simply having his last big payday, just like many antipodeans do.
All eyes on the lad in that first game, if it's not a blockbusting performance it could be all over for SBW as the saviour of the game by 10.00.p.m. However it won't be all over for his mega wages. They could have spent that on player development....

| If you let clubs spend what they want, then what you will have in a couple of years time is the club that can afford to give Sonny Bill Williams a few million quid a year will start winning the Grand Final every year. There will be a 20-30,000 drop off in attendance, traditional fans will get first annoyed, second bored, and third just disengaged and stop going. Toronto would basically be the PSG of Super League until their financiers get bored and stop pouring in the money. Sounds brilliant.
