| Some people seem to want him to fail.
In attack he's been brilliant in each game, great try today and he's set up a few tries with some class handling. He has had his problems defensively though, dropped a few bombs, the one he tried to shepherd out.
Rocks & diamonds probably sums it up well.

| He's shown good glimpses in attack, but is still too error prone. Far too error prone.
I'm not sure theres been a game where one of his errors hasn't directly lead to try, and i've watched all of them.
It was always going to take time, but if he wants to elevate himself into that upper tier, he needs to eliminate the defensive mistakes but also inject himself more in attack. The odd good pass and good run isn't enough for great players, he needs to be a constant menace.

| He's dropped a bollok by firstly not going to union where he would have become a multi millionaire and secondly signing for a poor NRL side. He's either stupid or been badly advised or maybe both

When fit....
1. Tomkins
2. Fisiliah
3. Hurrell
4. Nielson
5. Vatuvei
6. Locke
7. Johnson
Probably one of the best backlines in world rugby and a big pack too. This NZ team isent poor, it will be right up there this year.

No. He would not have become a multi millionaire, only two ever have, they are J Wilkinson and M Johnson, only the top England internationals are on very very gud money, S Tomkins would/will not get a regular start with England, same as K Eastmond. M Brown is better all round than Tomkins. Eastmond is not earning much more than what he would have if he was still with S Helens, and certainly not if he'd had gone to the NRL. Where do you get your info from? Vast majority of union plyrs are not on big money. S Burgess is NOT going for the money, don't know why RL supporters keep on about the "big" money in union, only the top internationals are on really big money, as I said earlier. And in fact J Thurston & G Inglis are on a higher basic wage than any rugby union player.

| Bath have a salary cap, he'll be lucky to be on £500k a year, bet he won't be on that, $700 a year max I reckon. And of course you've got to put in living expenses and tax into that, so he won't be taking home massive amounts. Granted if he becomes an England regular and all the add-ons that brings, then yes as I said, he'll then get big money. M Giteau is apparently "only" on 480,000 Euro a year, and he's in the top 10 highest paid RU earners in the world. So Sam B is not gonna be anywhere near $1m a year, don't believe what Fatty and the boys say on TV and what News Ltd say in their papers.

| Money wise he is better off in the NRL, on around $700 incl of 3rd party deals. But he is playing like a guy who as just come into 1st grade!! The NRL is totally different to the Super league and he is finding it difficult in defense IMHO. In attack he chimes into the line well and has good hands, some people are calling for him to be put to. 6, but I feel he would be targeted more in defense at 6. Give him a little longer to settle in though before we cast judgement .

And deserved .
It was interesting how he was used. Coming out of their own 20 he was at acting half for the first 2 or 3 tackled to give friend a rest. NZ player with 3 halves Johnson floating with Sam on the right and Townsend on the left. There is certainly a case to move him to 6 once Locke is fit.

He's always been a 6 for me.
We got away with playing him at 1 because the standard of Super League isn't great (bar 3 or 4 teams). I was never comfortable with Tomkins under the high ball - not when pressured.
He was a revelation playing there under the Maguire/Wane system because the whole attack was designed around getting the ball to him in space - and obviously he's a deadly open field runner. His passing/short kicking game is good enough for him to play 6 though and he'd frighten the life out of most teams playing there.
