When Wigan were a big club, not losing to Leeds in 5 games wasnt something anyone noticed. But being the 4th most successful team in the country for a decade seems to have lowered the ambition of some Wigan fans.

If you are bring in things from 8 seasons ago, can we bring in stuff from the last 30 seasons? It is classed as 'history' just the same as something from 8 seasons ago.

Did it never occur to you there was a reason i chose that particular time frame? Maybe because of the post I quoted? Maybe, I dont know, someone picking say 2 years because it included Wigans one good season this decade?

But if you think what Wigan achieved with a completely different squad, in a largely semi-pro game, 30 years ago is as relevant as what this leeds squad, of which the nucleus has stayed the same has achieved over the last 8 then crack on. But im not sure what you think your argument will gain now by harking back to an era long passed.

Wigan do have a successful history.
Leeds have a successful history and have archieved since 2004 more than I ever thought they would.

We lost on Saturday. The ref was crap but in no way effected the result Wigan deserved to win. I personally don't care how many times we knocked Wigan out or how many big games they have beaten us in. All a bit school yard.

Correct, it really bothers me when our fans bring out this 'Forever in our shadow' business. It's childish. Yes we have been very successful, but all that really matters is the present.

I'm not really wanting to enter a debate with you, but I'd say you can go back in history as far as if the same players were playing at the time. Moving back 30 years is a totally different era when many of the players where not born yet or below 5 years old.

Not quite, the reason being I thought we were measuring 'recent' success. And by 'recent' i would say you can go as far back as when a majority of the players playing today were playing then. Going back 30 years is a period when none on the players today would have been playing, so is hardly 'recent' in a playing sense.

Saints have beaten us plenty of times too. We really do struggle.

The Leeds celebrations after the GF last year were severely muted by their failure to beat Wigan all year, or to have beaten any side above them until the play-offs. They also regularly curse the failure of Garry Schofield et al to win anything in the 80s and 90s.
