| Quote: IR80 "TWP don't need reinstating, they haven't been kicked out.
Go with the 12, no promotion or relegation for 3 years, expand to 16 teams in 2024, Tolouse, Ottowa, New York and one from Halifax/Bradford/Featherstone, get a long term strategy going. Franchising works if you do it properly and don't skirt around it.
Make a huge bid to get into the CWG as 7's in 2026.'"
They have effectively kicked themselves out. If they are in Super League next season it will set a precedent that any team marooned at the bottom could withdraw without penalty.

| Surely this needs sorting out the sooner the better. Be interesting to see how they handle it.

Purely out of interest IR80 what conditions would you evaluate a club against re obtaining/maintaining a franchise? On the same basis as last time around?
I agree though, if expansion is to ever truly work in our game I can only see it with a good solid franchising model, unfortunately you then take out some of the excitement that a promotion and relegation model brings.

| Yeah I don’t know which way this will go. But if they remain in SL I feel minimum, a points deduction will be thrown their way. Effectively delaying the inevitable.

As much as my lis of clubs was tongue in cheek, the franchising comment was not. The criteria has to start with a solid, properly financed, business model, development strategies from school initiatives, involvement with local grass routes at all ages, an academy and a first team. Security of tenure on your ground, minimum 20 years from day one, salary cap set as a %ge of income. BUT it will never happen, because that is how a business would run, and sport is not a business in the pure sense.

| Quote: Pats plastic pitch "The whole Fev to replace Toronto next season wouldn’t really sit well. They were beaten in the final I get that, but what about the teams that Toronto knocked out along the way ?
To be honest I’m preparing myself for a massive fallout with the English game. TWP do not deserve their status next season in SL. But at the same time I can’t see a team being cherry picked to replace them.
So it’s either run with 11 teams or they retain their place. And I think it will be the latter.'"
As you rightly say, that just wouldn't sit right.
As beaten finalists, Fev are next in line.
That Toronto beat other clubs along the way is immaterial, Fev were the next highest rated club in The Championship.

It isn’t immaterial one bit. I highly doubt this would be the criteria they would use anyway. They’re the highest ranked club because TWP were the other finalists. Toronto didn’t just beat Featherstone, they took away a teams chances in the semi final too. If you want to go along the lines of saying “the next highest team should take their place”, there’s a lot more to it than that
This isn’t an attack on Fev or the club one bit at all. But throwing them into super league as beaten finalists wouldn’t be the way to go.
Go to 11 teams or pick a team that ticks more criteria than others.
It’s just a total mess with me thinking the likely option is that the RFL will give Toronto their super league place next season. But probably along with that some sort of decent points deduction.
