FORUMS > The Virtual Terrace > THE MILLION POUND GAME: BRONCOS V WOLFPACK |
|
| Quote: Sir Kevin Sinfield "The Toronto Wolfpack are reporting the Million Pound Game will be broadcast live in 15 countries. This is absolutely fantastic coverage for the sport of Rugby League.'"
SL is currently broadcast in 32 countries with 28 taking live games....... Only 3 countries have SL shown behind a paywall.......whilst the rest are happy to use the games as a free filler between football and cricket.
Toronto (should they as expected win the MPG) are taking 1.8 million in sky money next year which means they must share their independent TV revenue with the other 11 sides....... What's one eleventh share of sweet f&&k all?

Surely if the RFL set the prices, monies will be split on the stated attendance - less expenses of course

| I understood that entrance prices for shared gates have to be agreed between the two clubs? Not sure how the RFL would be able to intervene, and equally not sure why London would agree to any freebies. Mr Dog, the operational rules are rather long - could you tell us the reference for the appropriate section?

Unfortunately I can't copy and paste from the Op Rules but:
You are correct in some shared gate admission prices being agreed by the clubs - A3.23 p31 refers to CC games (excluding SF and F) where admission prices are to be agreed by the 2 clubs
A3.19 p30 refers to the 2 clubs sharing the net gate receipts of the MPG equally after payment of any levy and match expenses.
A3.26 p34 refers to prices for admission to the MPG (and Shield and L1 semis and final) as coming under rule A3.24 (as applies to CC SF and final games).
A3.24 p32-33 refers to the RFL setting the prices and allocation of tickets, that ALL tickets will be paid for by the clubs at face value, with the money paid within 7 days of the game and unsold tickets returned in accordance with instructions (otherwise unsold tickets may have to be paid for).

| A3.24 relates specifically to the Challenge Cup semi and final, but then A3.26 refers back to this to apply the same rules for the MPG, Championship Shield and others.
Well done for your detective work (the references are great, and you're right that you can't copy from the rules easily!) On the face of it, TWP are potentially breaking RFL operational rules if they're not selling tickets (ie. giving them away) at the prices set by the RFL?

I suppose that there is always the possibility that TWP (or more likely Mr Argyle) are putting the cost of the 'free' tickets into the pot themselves.

| QUALIFIERS
A3:19 The two Clubs participating in the play off between the Clubs finishing in 4th and 5th in
the Qualifiers shall share the net gate receipts (ie, gross gate receipts less VAT) equally
after the payment of any levy which may be in force from time to time and match
expenses (as defined in Operational Rule Section A3:13).
PLAY-OFF MATCHES AND LEAGUE 1 CUP
A3:26 In relation to the prices of admission for the Qualifiers 4th v 5th Play-off, the Championship
Shield Play-Off Semi-Finals, the Championship Shield Final, the League 1 Play Off Semi
Finals and the League 1 Play-Off Final the provisions of Operational Rule A3:24
(Challenge Cup Matches) shall apply with all necessary changes.
The prices of admission for the Super League Super 8s Play-Off Semi Finals and Final,
and the League 1 Cup Final shall be decided by the Board (and in the case of the Super
League Super 8s Play-off Semi-Finals and Final agreed by SLE).
CHALLENGE CUP SEMI FINALS & FINAL
A3:24 The Board shall decide the admission charges and ticket allocations for the Challenge
Cup Semi Finals and Final. The RFL shall notify each Club of its allocation and each
Club may, within 48 hours of such notice, make representations to the RFL that the
allocation should be increased. All tickets shall be paid for by the Clubs at their face
value. Each Club shall pay such sum to the RFL no later than 7 days after the Cup Tie.
Any unsold tickets shall be returned to the RFL in accordance with its instructions.
Failure to follow such instructions may result in the unsold tickets being charged to the
relevant Club at their face value.

From the TWP web-site for tomorrow's game...
Kids go Free
Building on the success of previous “kids go free” games on Canada Day Weekend and Labour Day Weekend, the Wolfpack will again extend free tickets to all Under 16s to encourage families to come together and enjoy a Thanksgiving celebration at The Den.
Adults can claim up to 2 free Junior Tickets with each purchase. Season Ticket Holders wishing to add juniors, or fans bringing bigger groups of juniors, can do so by emailing ticketing@torontowolfpack.com.
Season Ticket Holders / Members (Monday October 1st)
As a sign of appreciation for their support throughout the season all 2018 Season Ticket Holders will be granted 2 x ticket vouchers for the game, allowing access for them and a friend or family member.
Fans already signed up for 2019 Memberships will also be granted a ticket voucher. Emails will be sent at Monday lunchtime to communicate both offers and an exclusive link and password.
CMG, perhaps you know if London (and the RFL) have agreed to this?

Actually, the MPG is NOT classed as part of the regular season passes so is all ticket. I'm sure other teams that have been in the MPG before will also testify that. Get your facts right.

I'd be very careful GW, it could turn out to be an RL version of Deliverance with you trying to escape the clutches of a certain Mr James.
