| As I said much earlier in the thread it doesn't matter what structure SL has or what fanciful plans you might have for checking an owners credentials, if a clubs owner is the main financier (the majority of clubs have this issue) and they choose not to continue, the club faces financial ruin.
People may be critical to the Leigh owner, but its his money he's put in and it is completely up to him if he decides for whatever reason that he is going to walk away.
But for the grace of (the rugby league) god, there go most teams.

then the goal posts got moved and they have just been trying to survive, if they did not have relegation threatening them they could have built a side to challenge rather than finishing bottom most years. really believe if we stuck to franchising and made the hard decisions, we would be seeing the fruits of it over last couple of years, instead the game is spiraling downwards.

How come Cas have been able to become a top 4 team in this time and Wakey have gone from MPG to three top 8 finishes.
If we stuck with franchising they’d still be a club struggling at the bottom of the table, it might still be Widnes or another club and you could use the structure to blame it on.

| Someone always has to come bottom of the pile. Unless you create a situation where the bottom teams are given some sort of advantage, it's always going to be difficult to get away from the bottom as well. Franchising probably makes it harder to improve if you're at the bottom of the pile. Yep, you can build without the fear of relegation, and hope that you can maybe make 8th or 9th rather than 11th or 12th.
Australia and the US both give advantages to the teams finishing towards the bottom of their leagues, and unless this happens with RL in the UK, then franchising (with or without regional teams) will never work.

As apposed to your R&r system that has failed to make the game top dog in its own back yard and failing miserably. No wonder the game is dying on its with fans like you. And it probably deserves to die. But at least you can have your traditional heartlands game for northern flat cap

That's a wrong perception mate. It's not that we hate the north, we don't, we just want to see clubs make a decent effort in promoting and expanding the sport in their own catchment area but most have failed to do this in 123 years.
I'm all for seeing RL thrive in the Manchester metro region and hope that MCR Rangers will get up the ladder a notch or two and the heritage clubs like Oldham, Leigh etc strengthen in all areas.

Is it?
As a suvverner I look at wakey and Castleford trying to build a pair of white elephants a "nine iron" apart and shake my head..... It's all well and good resisting a merger but christ on a bike at least share 1 new stadium..... Or is the Calder awash with investors throwing cash at clubs with fewer than 4k Gates?

| He's an attention seeker is Dez - how many tear in his eye rambling statements is he going to make, deflecting blame for Leigh's woes onto anyone but himself?
There are some issues with the structure - but no one forced him to bet everything on trying to buy instant success; that one is entirely on him.

In a couple of his lengthy statements, he has accepted blame, (if you search hard enough!) especially in defence of Keiron Cunningham. However, you are right, it is entirely the blame of Leigh club, that they are now in this situation. We didn't hear anyone at Leigh moaning about the structure, when we used it to gain promotion, or when we were gifted an extra £500k by the SL clubs, as a golden opportunity to try to get back into SL. We simply employed the wrong group of players, who only learned what the Championship was about, when it was too late to overhaul five sides who were better prepared for it. We are where we are, because of what we did wrong.

HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_76030.jpg |
