Greater London is most of, but not all of the areas inside the M25.......The GLA are responsible for the running of the area and the GLA have no say in the running of St Albans, nor Watford.
A quick wiki-check shows.
WatfordThe borough is separated from Greater London to the south by the urbanised parish of Watford Rural in the Three Rivers District.'"
Given St Albans is further north than Watford, I would conclude that neither are actually in Greater London.
Also, I believe the financial top up to some wages is called London Weighting, not Greater London Weighting...
Hey....London is what it is and in reality, the club can't find it's with both hands anyway, so giving them permission to spend more is hardly a game changer.....the Broncos are a dead man walking

Typo amended.
All I see is people who believe in the "emperors new clothes"
Sorry but RL & SL are naked and would be corpses without the crutch of Sky preventing them falling over and smashing their heads open.
See under Clubs financial failings since SL began.

Oh, how we all yearn for the pre-Super League days, when all clubs were self sustaining.

We’re only interested in those in the bubble. Anyone who wants to come in the bubble, you can come in.
But you’ve got to keep believing.:86.jpg |

So what you're saying is that, were it not for the income streams SL has negotiated due to the desirability of its games to TV viewers, it would be in difficulty because, having secured those income streams, it/the clubs has decided to spend the money rather than stick the cash under the mattress?

I see our situation as very similar to that of many team sports, including the world's biggest.

| There's also the fact that London Weighting is only paid to certain civil servants, NHS workers, Police and security guards.
Also, it only works out as a few grand. The 10% allowance from the RFL should be more than able to cover it.

I think there's some confusion here. The public sector employers pay London weighting because they have national pay scales, and London weighting is a recognition of the inadequacy of those pay scales, but nobody pretends that the weighting actually reflects the disparity in the cost of living.
A better way of looking at what the London cost-of-living premium is would be to compare average and mean salaries between London and other regions, or simply to look at average house price costs, as housing is the largest single item in most people's household budget.
Here the difference is clear : London is hugely more expensive than any other region of the UK - especially the northern regions - and 10% doesn't even begin to cover it.
Not just a problem in rugby league, of course. But it needs to be recognised. A 10% allowance still leaves London with a far smaller real budget than a club in a less-expensive region. It's not the sole - or even main - reason for their demise, however. That comes down far more to mismanagement and an amateur approach to marketing.

| lol typical Northerners geography ignorance shocker..ST.Albans and Watford have never and will never be part of Gt.London..saying that St.Albans is pretty expensive to live in for the most part..
The point about how the Cap wouldn't have had an effect to where London is now it moot. Given the disadvantage they've had for over a decade then we'll never know if the extra cap they should have been entitled to (& likely spent) would have given them that extra quality to become an on field success. That in turn has a huge effect on all other aspects. I'm not saying it would have propelled London to 5 figure gates and a trophy but it would have seen them in a far better position than they are now...
So IMO the inadequate 'London weighting' given to LB has being an integral part of their demise..

| My sincere apologies to all.
Rugby league is run by competent people worldwide and is the planets premier sport.
All the planets major blue chip businesses are fighting each other tooth and nail to invest in this financial bonanza that the game produces.
How could I forgotten the massive investments made by member clubs of the RFL in 2nd rate, never never would be NRL standard but would invigorate the game by improving the standards.
How could I have forgotten the massive investment in player development so much that the academies were scrapped because "they cost too much"
As for the much vaunted coaching development scheme, that is paying off handsomely. All the good young coaches rising to the top,
If any of my posts have given the impression that everything in Rugby League is not perfect then accept my sincerest apologies again.
The evidence is there for all to see, and the World Cup will ultimately prove that a game with no promotion and minimal marketing in an area of the British isles can attract full houses with tens of thousands locked out.
The epode rears new clothes is of course only a fairy tale and has no basis in fact.

smart phone or heavy drinking?
London are on their ......simply put, without additional revenue from either an investor or the games governing body, I doubt there will be a club for the 2014 season.
The problem with the sport in the UK is the total and utter lack of confidence in themselves or their product and a reluctance to truly embrace change. As a result, expansion in Wales and the South east at a professional level is dead and other than the usual suspects, there is a single French outpost flying a "we're a European/national sport" flag that advertisers and sponsors aren't buying into.
The people tasked with running the game will tell us that lots of little "partners" are better than 1 big named sponsor. They will tell us that 50% of their TV viewers are in the South East and expect us to believe them, although SKY do not offer such demographic information for any of their other sports. They will tell us that the game is in rude health with 250,000 participants, when in reality, less than 45,000 people actually play the game.
The RLWC 2013 was a perfect opportunity to showcase the sport and cash in on the Olympics from 2012.......they may well still get away with it, but if they do, it will be through luck more than anything.
Remove Wigan, Wire and Leeds from the current 14 and you have a few clubs with benefactors and others that are only now realising that they can't continue to be run as they have been.
I am of the belief that once we've had a few years of 12-12 to 8-8-8, they will shut the door on SL with a 10 team league.....because they haven't the courage to cull the weaker teams, they will let nature take its course....I'd say before the start of the 2017 season we will have a super 10!

| iPad, plus few Las Vegas brews.Just really p****d off that after being really positive about the sport, in all my lifetime these last few years have been the most uninspiring that I can recall. The amateur game probably couldn't agree that water is wet, the development scheme has had its funding hammered, thereSTILL FAR TOO MANY PASSED IT, NEVER WILL BE,PENSION SEEKING ,HOLIDAYING OCEANICS IN THE GAME.
It sends the wrong message."Want a game 18 year old? Well tough, we will sign a passport exempt player, push you to championship club because it is easier than developing your skills and cheaper than running another team"
But as I said, I KNOW the game is fine fettle, SL is just brilliant and all World Cup games will be sell outs.

| I dont get this obsession with London. Why does it have to be in London? Is there no where else in the south it could be set up. For example somewhere that is cheaper to live, possibly with an interested fan base?
If not why not expand closer to roots? Cumbria or the like.
One thing that is looking certain is that unless something changes London are going to be a joke next season. Can see them forfitting games at this rate.
