Black Backgrounds/Zoot.gif Freedom for supporters of the government, only for members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively for one who thinks differently.

| Whatever happens, it'd better be PDQ, as the new season starts 5 (five!) weeks next Thursday with Halifax - Sheffield on Premier Sports with SL following the next day.

| Fev for me.
They've arguably been the most consistent side across the Championship over the last few season and they'd also bring big local derbies against Cas, Wakey and Leeds, which would bring more increased revenues to those respective clubs than any other side would.
I'd also argue that they would have a bigger support than all the other clubs too.

| Think it's more likely that the super league and some clubs will push for a 13 team season followed by a further reduction to a 12 team format.
So for me the question is if Salford fold Will the Super League reduce to 13 then 12 teams and if so which club will be ejected at the end of next season.
The reason I think this is the way it might go is most of the clubs mentioned outside Super League have at some point in the past been rejected for one reason or another rightly or wrongly.
So I think a reduction to 12 would give the Super League the option of using the expansion card and placing a club of their choice in the competition. ie a Second French or a new Welsh or another area or even a Manchester franchise.

Manchester franchise ? Surely Salford are already a "Manchester franchise"
Although it's been mentioned already, Fax were put on standby during the Bradford debacle and it is therefore obvious that they are the most likely club to be given a shot but there are 2 clear problems with this.
First of all, how could they possibly get ready for serious competition, even if the bigger clubs loan some players and
would they really want to be the whipping boys for 1 or 2 seasons and risk causing harm to their case for inclusion in 2015.
Unless they were assured of a place from 2015, they would be brave/ foolish to jump in at short notice.

Scary that when you think Salford haven't even released Season Ticket details!

| You get the sense salford's management know their SL journey is coming to an end. Hard to know what the answer is when so many clubs are struggling to survive.

| SL won't go with 13 teams this season. The fixtures are already out, it'd make a mess of the Magic weekend & all of the other teams have budgeted & sold passes for 13 home games. It's not realistic to expect any other team to step in & be remotely competetive at such short notice either. Like it or not propping Salford up to see the season out is the only realistic option imo.

As did both Wakefield and Bradford, both are new companys who took on the team name, SL place and colours of the old company. I understand Wakefield paid most of their debt, Bradford less so, but as Newcos neither was legally required to pay any of the Oldcos debt. I struggle to see how the RFL could refuse a similar Newco from Salford?

Sorry Giantdee, neither Bradford or Wakefield were liquidated.
In both cases they were brought out of "Administration" by a new buyer. This is not the same as being liquidated.
When a company is liquidated, this usually happens when a buyer can not be found for the business and the liquidation is the last act by the "Administrator" to raise funds for the creditors and is basically an auction of all of the assets (right down to the tables and chairs etc).
In theory, the monies are then shared amongst the people that are owed money but, in practice all of the monies will be shared between "preferential creditors" and there isnt enough to filter down to the small companies that are owed money.

I think you will find that in both cases new companies were set up, the playing assets and league membership were transferred to those new companies. That of course depends on the players agreeing to transfer and I think all RL fans are aware of the "Kopczak affair" which could only happen because the old Bradford company was to be liquidated.
As I understand it there was not the same pressing need for WTW to liquidate the old club, but it was easier and cleaner for the new owner to set up Spirit of 1873 or whatever the exact name of the new company is. I wasn't having ago at either Bradford or Wakefield, it is surely good that the Rugby identities and traditions carry on, far from having an issue with that I support it. The same leeway should surely be given to the identity and tradition of Salford RL?
