| Quote: MjM "The language barrier, for the French players at Catalan at least, has to have an impact. I've been convinced for some time that the Dragons get a raw deal - this was particularly evident in their first three years when they were by far the most penalised team in the league over that period. Things have seemed to get better but I'm sure many of the players inevitably fail to build a rapport with the referees during a game.
Is there a conspiracy though? No.'"
during that period, 3 of their most penalized players, were, chriss beattie, alex chan, and ian hindmarsh, all english speakers iirc.
They were just a very very rough team, i thought they got penalized appropriately as they played, and i loved watching them then, i love watching them play now, less said about the walters years , the better.

| I'm still trying to work out how Toulouse getting penalised more than anyone else suggests that they're a dirty side.
You do get penalised for a lot of other things, including - as pointed out earlier - slow PTB and other such offences, offide for example.
A bit of a straw man there, all it say is that TO13 were penalised more than anyone else. Nothing more, nothing less.

So you are only allowed one shot then?
What about Huddersfield, Salford, Castleford and Widnes?

Other than Huddersfield, who didn't go down when maybe they should have, the other 3 have gone down and come back up...Widnes went down even though they didn't finish bottom and have entered and come out of admin.....as a club, they acted like a business when turned down for the first round of licences...there was no very public dummy-spit or meltdown as there was in Leigh.....there was no last game atendance announced that dragged the seasons average up to 2,500 exactly like there was at Halifax.......they presented the best plan in the eyes of the RFL.
Halifax and Leigh both nearly bankrupted themselves trying to stay in SL and as a result, they found themselves unable to "bounce back"......both clubs are now to be applauded for the way they are run and if they keep up this good work both on and off the field, they will get a licence, but some of their fans, especially the ones who say "we don't care about Superleague" do seem to post some bitter and twisted stuff regarding the competition they are glad their team isn't involved in

If by prefer, he means "fix", then no, you are correct, they don't, but .........London Broncos v Catalans at either Old Trafford or Wembley would seriously test the devotion of many heartland fans and must feature highly in the list of Nightmare Scenarios for The RFL management Team.......IMO that is

| That's sport. I doubt the FA were that chuffed when Millwall and Portsmouth got to their Cup final, but I don't hear football fans yelling about fixes to keep them out.

Have they stopped putting the balls in the freezer the night before the draw?

Widnes should have been accepted first time around (same situation as Wakefield this time who were accepted) but the reason they kept quiet was because it was blatently obvious that they hed been promised a place for 2012 as, once they had "ticked a box" on the field, they gave up trying and started preparing for SL.
As to Halifax in SL, they had 7 reasonable years (at least they weren't fighting relegation every year) with a best finish of 3rd. As to their subsequent relegation I'm not going through it all again as I'm sick of explaining it to people. Suffice it to say that, had it happened under today's rules, we would not have been relegated, would have cleared the historical debt we'd been carrying and had time to rebuild the squad as Bradford would have done if they had cut their team to the bone but instead they have flatly refused to release a single player and will still be in SL next year without a shadow of a doubt.

Exactly. I never mentioned the word 'fix.' But as you say, a London Broncos vs. Catalans Challenge Cup Final/Grand Final would be most disappointing for the RFL, to say the least.

| Quote: sanjunien "penalty stats from the Toulouse Chapmpionship seasons prove the bias - something like a two or three to one in favour of the English clubs and TO13 were not a dirty side'"
Toulouse were a poor and indisciplined side - not necessarily dirty. They were constantly trying to slow games down when on the back foot, and they were on the back foot a lot in the Championship.
A bit like Widnes this season. That's why they top the current Penalty league on 225 and the Dragons are down in 6th place with only 184 penalties. There is only 13 points between the Dragons and Wakey in 12th place.
Let's be honest. There is, and has been, no conspiracy against the French. This is just out and out whinging by a frustrated club. Some of the decisions I've seen given against Widnes this season have been nothing short of disgraceful. The goal kick that was disallowed against the Saints was stunning in its complete incompetence. But that is what it is - incompetence and the odd bad call.
Sh1t happens!

poop happens!
Toulouse were ill disciplined at times, especially in the final year when morale was at an all time low but they weren't a 'poor' side - about mid-table level but with the big disadvantage of having to fit in work committments with training and of course the gruelling travelling schedule which proved that any french side playing in SL or the Championship has to be made up of full time pros
let's be honest, there is a conspiracy against the french teams though it's an in-built northern bias which is inevitable with predominantly northern officials - it's not cheating just a leaning towards the UK sides but not helped by indiscipline from the french at times.
yes, it is whinging by a frustrated club and if you attended the Catalan home games this season you would feel the same way - don't tell people who have attended every Catalan home game this season otherwise unless you have been there to judge for yourself unless of course you have in which case I respectfully beg to differ.
