| Quote: bren2k "Mr Thaler got it exactly right for me - Hock nutted LMS in the face in the scrum then came up swinging when he couldn't get one over on him - he then landed several upper cuts whilst LMS was being held by other Wigan players. The ensuing brawl was mostly handbags, apart from Magennis and Tuson, the latter of whom totally lost the plot - he was windmilling like a psychotic maniac and deserved to walk.
Can I just say, as a neutral, well done to Wigan and Saints for spoiling what should have been the showcase finale to a fantastic weekend of rugby, and providing what few headlines the game will get in tomorrow's papers. Great job!'"
Hock nutted LMS? Didn't happen. They rubbed & banged heads in the scrum then stood up. At no point did Hock throw his head in. If you watch, the only player to dip his head in is LMS, and that's when it went off. And in reality Hock was the only Wigan player to hold LMS. No other Wigan players hold him even for a moment - he's actually surrounded by Wilkin, Puletua, and Flannery. McIlorum has a hand on him for a second and moves away. Don't make stuff up, you just look stupid.
Tuson lost his rag because that sh*tbag Magennis swung one at him from behind as he walked away. Should he take that? If he actually watch and pay attention you'll see Magennis doing plenty of windmilling but failing to actually connect before Mossop puts him on his backside.
I love the 'alternate universe' version of reality that seems to be doing the rounds, and the muppets who are so eager to believe it. Try actually watching the footage.

Well luckily for you it didn't happen. The only Wigan player to hold LMS at any point is Hock.
As for Magennis, yes Tuson lands a couple when Lockers grabs him, but the sh*tbag deserves it for throwing one from behind. Only took Mossop one to plant him on his backside, and no-one was holding him at that point.
Again, people should try watching the footage and engaging their brains before making accusations.

I'm loving the Saints fans "Wigan started it" claim and the Wigan fans "Saints started it" riposte.

| I watched the footage. Hock was idiotic as usual, LMS was silly too. The rest was frankly handbags and did not warrant anything more than sinbin.

I watched it about ten minutes ago and crucially, without cherry and white spec's on; that's how I formed my view.
The incident was a disgraceful end to a weekend of great rugby and all the players censured by Mr Thaler deserved to walk; lengthy bans incoming for Messrs Hock, Tuson and Magennis, all thoroughly well deserved.

I was talking generally. Seen it in a few games and havent seen the footage of this one yet as I was at the game watching live, and you admit anyway that O'loughlin grabs him. Being a sh*tbag presumably makes it acceptable?

| Can't believe some people are saying Louie should of been carded as well. He doesn't even get to throw a punch, even after Hock uppercuts him 4-5 times while he's holding him close to him.

Doesn't take any specs to see that no Wigan players are holding LMS while Hock throws a few. The only player holding him is, in fact, Hock himseld. It's painfully clear.
If your view is still that "LMS was being held by other Wigan players", I suggest you get some specs, whatever colour.
So which Wigan players, in your view, are holding LMS while Hock belts him?

Perhaps O'Loughlin should stand idly by and observe? Or perhaps he should stick up for his team-mate by grabbing the other guy.
It wasn't a case of "Sean, you grab him, I'll deck him", it was a brawl with players grabbing and pulling each other all over the place. And yes, if Magennis is going to throw cowardly shots from behind and then start swinging at anyone who comes near then perhaps he does deserve a slap.

Given that you've retracted your argument down to the single issue of Hock holding LMS, I'll defer to other posters who've said that Hock had him in a clinch and the other people in attendance weren't holding him.
Either way, Hock started the head-banging in the scrum and was the player who threw several unanswered punches; that being the catalyst for the resultant melee.
Given the faith that Wigan showed in him, aren't you a touch disappointed that he chose to repay that faith by earning himself another ban? Thuggery aside, he's in a rich vein of form - I expect Wigan will miss him whilst he's gone.

You are so blind because of your bias. Hock could pull out a shot gun and blow LMS to bits and you'd question intent.
Hock started it through mindless stupidity in the scrum. Anyone who has ever been in a scrum before knows what Hock did was out of order. He twice dipped his head and brought it up into LMS's face, for no reason at all. There had been nothing to cause it and the game had been remarkably uneventful until that point.
You will be lucky to have only 2 banned for the Leeds game. If the RFL look at that incident properly, there are probably 4 or 5 that could be banned for it. Not very smart when you'd won the game after 20 minutes.

| The world has changed, and the sport is far more conscious about the public image projected by violence than it was even a few years ago. On a big occasion, a fight like that has no place, and as well as a couple of bans, a number of other players ought to be fined.
Now for my completely hypocritical view.....Hock's a nutter, but that's exactly why I'd pick him for England against Australia.

No, don't avoid the issue.
You said " Hock nutted LMS in the face", and he "landed several upper cuts whilst LMS was being held by other Wigan players", when in reality Hock didn't nut anyone and no Wigan players were holding LMS. I've asked you who was holding LMS but you can't answer.
You then said Tuson was "windmilling like a psychotic maniac" when in reality they exchanged a few swings before Tuson landed a few uppercuts and that was all he did. Magennis, meanwhile, was swinging at all and sundry, but you fail to mention that.
The 'headbanging' in the scrum was 50/50. Both players shoved each other's heads, both banged heads a few times and and Hock rolled his head under LMS. Then they stood up. At no point did Hock stick his head in, even after it kicked off.
I'm happy to hold my hands up when players are in the wrong and Hock was stupid to escalate things, but don't make up events that didn't happen. Or at least make an effort to defend yourself and prove your point when you do.

Props never bang heads and test each other at the scrum, do they?
I blame your sorry lot for sticking a southern pansy at prop. Clearly can't handle it.
Jesus your team were embarrassing today.

It's not 1980 any more. In the era of non-competitive scrums, there really is no place or benefit to banging heads in the scrum.
LMS was fine, pretty fantastic really compared to the rest of the side.
