My point simply is, Ellis is a winner, if a neutral were to put money on which clubs were going to win silverware in the next three years, where would it be?
I’m pleased that Hull are going in the right direction, however, if I was looking at winning stuff, Leeds would surely be the place to go.'"
I do not have a chip on my shoulder , however like you point out a crystal ball is needed to call who will win what, and your post implied Ellis would not win any silverware whilst at FC. FC are clearly building under our new owner, and new coach and my point is who is to say FC will not build a competitive team like Wire did in the next couple of seasons and mount a serious challenge resulting in silverware.

He's doing well cheers! Decent coach, you see.
All ribbing apart, I'm actually pleased for FC. They're a sleeping giant and Ellis is simply an awesome player. Hopefully he'll lead the way and raise standards across the squad, and they can build something around him. Glad he's not gone to one of the usual contenders.

Rome was not build in a day, but Pearson was not involved in that job
you seem to be forgetting about a little thing called the salary cap. Ellis will be taking a significant proportion of Hulls cap for the next three years and assuming Pearson isnt going to bend/ignore the rules this will limit FCs ability to recruit a competitive squad. Half back needs to be a priority for hull and with the best will in the world no second rower no matter how good is going to change also rans into title winners. Its half backs that change teams.
Leeds have succeeded because they have a rigid structure and more importantly have an enviable youth policy, something that has been lacking at Hull. Signing Ellis on the package he will have been (deservedly) looking for would have severely limited leeds ability to retain watkins Hardaker bjb and younger players coming up like stevie ward. Swapping that organic growth for one world class player is the sort of mistake Leeds used to make in the 80's. I think Ill trust 5 titles in 8 years under GHs stewardship over some Hull fans dick waving.

And your source for this information is....
Oh, wait - you don't have one. It's pure guesswork.
Or wishful thinking maybe.

| Quote: Kosh "I was pretty made up by the signing of Ellis, but this thread and the one on the Leeds board has been the icing on the cake.
Do you not get out much?
The thread on Southstander is full of Leeds fans saying "oh well would have like to see him back but not a position we need to strengthen" and Hull fans either getting irate or trying to gloat (Leeds fans like Ellis but we have actually coped alright without him)

Is it??
The only thing that I've seen in the public domain is Gentle saying "he opted for us over potentially some more lucrative offers". Neither a definitively worded statement nor an impartial source...

Kosh beat to it, but on the basis you seem to have ignored 99% of the facts on offer and also make some sweeping assumptions I'll give some information.
Firstly try reading my original post again.
Ellis is building block, albeit a massive one. Hull said they had 60k left on this years cap. They have a number of players out of contract at the end of the season, two of which are expected to leave let alone the others.
Gary hetherington does run a good tight ship, fair play. But let's face it, Leeds pack needs overhauling at the end of the season and now you have missed out on what is probably the best British forward in the game whom was actively wanting to come back to his roots but to an ambitious club.
Seems to me to speak volumes about Leeds ambitions?
But then again could it be anything to do with the EBT bill your club could face which may hinder spending in the near future?
Either way, if it didn't bother you, you wouldn't have felt the need to post some rubbish on this thread.

| Quite why any of my fellow Hull fans are bothered what about some bitter Leeds fans think is beyond me. The sensible ones are of the same opinion as the Hull fans were yesterday. Amazing player that would get into any team but possibly the salary cap could be put to better use. As it happens I think the fact we have managed to sign Ellis is more important than the signing itself. Ellis won't be the final piece of the puzzle for us but he could certainly be the catalyst for building something special.

By that are you suggesting that the quote from a Hull FC official is a lie?

| Why does Leeds' pack need overhauling for next season? We are losing Leuluai but have already signed Griffin and Moore (plus we have Peacock, Bailey, Kirke and possibly Ambler and/or Amor).
As for the back row, I think a bigger problem for Leeds re-signing Ellis is what to do with the other players - we already have Delaney, Ablett, JJB, Clarkson, Hauraki and Pitts fighting it out, with Ward an exicting prospect. The only way Leeds could have signed Ellis is if they got rid of someone else (probably more than one).
My issue with Leeds is we now have depth in the pack without having a genuine impact player, and we may have a logjam of reasonable but not outstanding forwards over the next few seasons.
Anyway, back on topic, I think its great that a world class player has signed for Hull. I hope he's great for them.

| Good signing, he is in great form for Wests though he does seem to be increasingly injury prone.
Think Hull fans are kidding themselves if they don;t think he took the biggest pay deal, maybe the others were for two years and this one three but ultimately the money would have been the most as no player at the back end of their career is going to take a lower pay offer because they "like what the chairman had to say"!

No I'm saying when you actually read what was said it's fairly meaningless (what the hell does "potentially" mean)...
...do we know what clubs these other offers were from, what length of contract other clubs offered, how they structure their pay vs bonuses etc etc

I agree with the above

But this is utter nonsense
