Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Quote: spooneryork ", no Quins Cats or Crusaders he top flight in then forget big blue chip sponsorship deals and future national exposure, the game will simply revert back to being a marginalised northern game. The game is doomed without a viable national presence in the SL'"
I agree , but how long can they justify thier inclusion if they are unable to draw any sizeable crowds [ and yes I know they are the community kings of the RL world ] , when the RFL have set that as a criteria , and with the unlikely increase in Tv funding eventually they will run out of benefactors to bankroll them
Much as it would have many fans at both Championship and SL level knashing thier teeth in anger , the RFL should declare the Quins a ' special ' case and start to put monies into marketing them properly in the capital

Best way forward, finding the funds to do this might not be easy though.

Well considering that the inclusion of Quins increases the SKy money available ' according to some on here ' , I'd have thought that should be the 1 st port of call , £ 80 K each from the other 13 clubs should be a start
Ohh look a flying pig

| Not having a go, but can't see London RL ever working personally. When you can't fill a Cup Final allocation in your own city and are still getting 3500 in the top flight after 30 years, surely you know it's never going to take off.

How many international RL players have Hull KR produced in the past four years?

Irrelivant if you cannot pay your way in the chosen field , which is another problem HKR seem to have in common with most other clubs , both SL and Championship
Will players from the south result in people watching Quins ?

My point was more to do with "Roofs"' suggestion that London RL would ever work. Even though they have developed more recent England RL internationals than KR - a clear indicator that RL is developing and working in the capital

Well I haven’t read all the pages but I thought I’d add my view.
Rugby League in London is progressively gaining momentum. I totally agree with the Harlequins argument in that they don’t represent London as their base is predominately in the South East London/Surrey direction. Re: London Skolars, a combination of poor playing standard, very poor training facilities and the mammoth trips made by the players every week to the likes of Workington, York etc.. Makes attracting players very difficult obviously. Plus the travelling distance to training on a night from the strong bed of Rugby League in the likes of Hemel and Brentwood can be a nightmare in traffic.
However the RFL are putting in place the framework to develop the younger players. There are 2 development camps in London, split into North and South for the development of the best players at U13 level, who gain 2 hours a week of specific rugby training. A proposal to increase this to other age groups next year is the target.
Then there is St Marys University who promote Rugby League, with Middlesex University recently setting up a Rugby League team also - there is a link below for a Rugby League open day at Middlesex University. Then there is Southgate College in North London which is hopefully going to become a pathway for prospective Middlesex Students from the college.

| Also an awful lot of schools are playing League instead of union now. Think contested scrums being the reason.

| having teams in wales, france and london is good for the long term
fulham was clearly the best guise of the london RL team as the soccer fans appeared to jump on board
thats why i suggested linking up with a soccer club.

Yes it is , but we are discussing the viability of Quins RL , a different subject to RL development in the capital

Great , wonderful , marvelous , but how do Quins become a viable reasonably self sustaining club , ie only needing a couple of hundred grand extra money put in every year instead of close to a million ?
