football has nothing to do with it. If those 4 teams were playing at home that would still only be 220,000 people out of how many.
Rl is a better game and soccer cannot compete on price, What is your pricing policy like, what are you doing to get kids and familkies in. At Huddersfield i paid 3125 for a season ticket for me and the 3 kids. that is the way you compete with soccer. Get the punters in and keep them.'"
You paid over 3 grand for a season ticket?

| Quote: gateaux "But look at the figures that Bilko has provided. Compared to your attendances last season Celtic are up 78% and your only up 16.8% - surely you must be concerned as to why being in SL isn't drawing in much bigger crowds?'"
It's not that much of a concern, we all know why it's the case. United and City on our doorstep, the fact that we're not very good and most people in the area would rather be armchair football fans than come and support a team they see as going nowhere. Add that to many Salford fans getting p*ssed off at things behind the scenes at the club to the point where they've stopped going and we're fighting an uphill battle.
Celtic and their crowds is a completely different situation to Salford, so you can't really compare the two. It won't stop anyone, I know, but still.
The fact is though, our crowds are up. It might not be much of an improvement, the crowds may well still be very low compared to the rest of SL. But it's a step in the right direction. If we can hang on to most of our squad, make a few improvements and get this bloody ground built... Well, that'll be the time to judge us on crowd improvement. Until then, just take heart in the fact that we are slowly improving them. After all, the whole point of franchising was to judge us after the three years, not part way through the first.

Their average season to date is around 300 higher than 2008's average, and this despite the revolutionary season ticket offer.
Some of their crowds this year have been lower than the corresponding fictures last year, and this despite the fact that they are now 3rd in the league.
What more is there for the Hudds club to do? They have cheap season tickets, free admission for kids under 16, and not a bad team on the field.
Seems a bit disappointing to me, and I'm sure the club were hoping for much much better.'"
To be fair though the deal only ran for a limited time IIRC and matchday tickets havent gone down so its not attracting away fans to games, so the deal only benefited a few if that

Rubbish. Football has a lot to do with it. Forget the 220,000 people at the grounds, there are even more who would rather sit at home or go to their local and watch televised football than pay to watch live RL.

But is it not up to the clubs to make the effort to target these people and try to sell the game to them rather than sitting back and writing them off?

I would saY that there are two main reasons for that .
Our home form has been DIRE PARTICULARLY AT THE BEGINING OF THE SEASON AND I THINK THE NEW SUPPORTERS AND SPECCIES WE BROUGHT IN HAVE GONE AND NOT BOTHERED COMING BACK.
SECONDLY I THINK WE HAVE BEEN ON sky FOR 50% OF OUR HOME GAMES THIS SEASON, WHICH HAS MEANT CHANGING kos AND TIMES TO SUIT. WHEN YOU ADVERTISE AS A SUNDAY TEAM AND PLAY HALF YOUR GAMES ON SAT OR FRI NIGHT IT AFFECTS ATTENDANCES. MY KIDS HAVE ONLY ATTENDED HALF OF OUR HOME GAMES AS GETTING HOME AT 11 OR 12 AT NIGHT IS TOO LATE FOR THEM. I KNOW THIS AFFECTS A LOT OF OUR FANS. iT ALSO WILL AFFECT THE NUMBER OF UNNATTACHED WALK UP FANS AS WELL AS HOME SUPPORT. UNFORTUNATELY BEING SUCCESSFUL MEANS THAT YOU BECOME SKYS WHORE .
NB will watch out for caps lock next time

Maybe they are trying but it's a hard sell. Certainly the pub I was in pre match on Friday (full of United flags and the like) had a Salford v Saints match poster up. The difficult thing is that probably due to the price of football, there are hundreds of thousands of sports fans who have got used to "supporting" their team from an armchair and to whom the thought of going to a live game of any sport doesn't even enter their head. I've lost count of the number of Salford "supporters" I've spoken to in pubs and taxis who never go to games.

Who's written them off? The club are trying to pull people in, but there's only so much you can do. If people don't want to go, they don't want to go, it's as simple as that. I've lost count of the amount of Salford taxi drivers I've spoken to who "used to go". After we lost to Huddersfield at home, a local cycled past two blokes in front of us and asked how Salford had gone on - he laughed when he found out we'd lost and took great delight in the fact.
It's going to take an almighty effort to turn that kind of attitude around and it's not going to happen overnight. That's why, as I said, the time to judge us is in a couple of years time. Not now.

| ticket prices are £17 adults £11 kids at wire
an average family is 2 kids
£56 fee for the family sounds great value but for some is still steep.
If you bring your family (wife and kids) there should be a sizeable discount, that's 4 bums on seats instead of 1 and 8 instead of 2.
Marketing within Rugby league is shocking, i know people go on about the press ignoring us but life helps those that help themselves.
Teams need to market and work harder than they do. i know a lot of clubs have community involvement but hey a few posters (with prices) wouldn't go a miss. Flyers in the local rags.
Plus going outside their usual areas, Warrington again is right at the top of Cheshire but doesn't promote the game in Chester or Crewe and im sure they are not the only club guilty of it
The last rule of a dying company is ADVERTISE ADVERTISE ADVERTISE

| I liked how Salford "upped" their gate prices for the saints match. Think it was £15 for their previous home game, but upped it to £17 for the saints match, just stuck a sign over the old one, even the bloke on the gate said "well its saints isnt it, got to charge more for a big game"... maybe that kept the solly fans away ?

It's been £17 all season. They just stuck the new sign over the old one because we probably couldn't afford to do anything else.
