| Quote: Nick NJ "Yeah seen it before, the government pledged their support during the world cup, from memory. It'll never happen though.
Shame really, I'd love them to be in there, the most fanatical support in RL.'"
theres a look at a team based in darwin and playing games in darwin and png
i believe they can get an nrl side within 10 years but have to play in the qld cup first

In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

Immigration laws stopping PNG players AUSTRALIAN immigration laws are denying Papua New Guinea rugby league players their dream to play in the NRL while others turn to the UK as it's easier to gain entry.
A number of PNG's top players can not play in the NRL or run with feeder clubs because tough visa restrictions require large cash bonds to guarantee compliance with the law.
Kumuls centre Jesse Parker is the latest PNG player to claim visa restrictions are stopping him trialling at a NRL club, St George Illawarra.
PNG rugby league chairman Albert Veratau told AAP at least ten of the country's top players have been denied access to play in Australia due to visa restrictions.
One PNG rugby league official joked players could sign up to Australia's pilot Pacific seasonal workers scheme designed to assist the agriculture industry.
"Pick fruit in the week and play footy on weekend, perhaps, as a way around the problem," he said.
During Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's 2008 PNG trip he said one of the strongest links between the two countries was rugby league.
Rudd gave $260,000 to PNG rugby league for facilities and equipment like boots, jumpers and shorts.
PNG's business, sporting and political elite are also pushing for a PNG-based team entering the NRL by 2012.

| Now that's different to an exclusive PNG team and has greater potential.
What is the potential for Darwin? Demographics, bums on seats, advertising etc.

NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_9857.jpg |

| only the wa reds are working hard to be ready. all the rest are just pipe dreams. bears are only other currently viable club and if they were fair dinkum about the cc they would be playing there now.
png have thrown their hat in but the hurdles are massive and they couldn't sustain a qland cup team.

| i cant see past central coast bears and the reds in the next expansion. it satisfies the heartland and gives a genuine expansion team as well.
on Darwin, isnt it a fairly fast growing city. it should be able to have an NRL team eventually. and if the NRL were smart they would get in first like they did in the Gold coast.

the darwin / PNG idea would be brilliant
JB makes a fair point that WA and CC are the only genuine contenders atm though central queensland are soon launching a bid

| JB. Is it true that you'll have a team in both Bundaberg Red Cup and NSW Cup next season?
