Wolves Bit unfair on Huddersfield there Steph...you don't like Warrington, fair enough.

| It was a shocking display of officiating, Huddersfield robbed for the second game in a row because of it. Not giving BMM a red card and missing the forward pass for the Widdop try were two unforgivable mistakes.
Have to say, when you consider that Warrington have a marquee stand off and scrum half they’re terrible to watch, one of the most boring teams in SL. Really don’t understand why they didn’t get rid of Price at the end of last season because their style of play is horrendous which is ridiculous given some of the players they have. They’ll regret not bringing in Ian Watson because Price is a pretty poor coach. The only thing that’s getting them through those sort of games is individual quality and they’ll always be a threat in one-off knockout games because of it but if I was a Warrington fan I’d find it difficult to watch that sort of performance week in week out. Although they’ve done a number on them in the big games in recent times I can’t see them troubling St Helens this year, will need to improve to beat Wigan as well. Thought Huddersfield gave it a good go and had they not been down two players for most of the game or if they’d had a bit more luck with decisions they would have won. Think Warrington and Catalans/Leeds will beat them to the top 4 but they should come close for the final spot.

| Quote: WireWireWire "Thaler being cack goes both ways. Currie challenges for a ball and gets ragged backwards by the collar while he's in the air by Cudjoe so his feet come up off the floor and HE gets penalised because said feet touched a Hudds player as a result. LAUGHABLE. How that went your way Lord only knows. Refs aren't bent they're just generally incompetent.'"
Agreed Wire should have had a penalty...
However I don’t usually ‘bag’ the ref it’s not an easy thing to do..
But firstly watch BMM’s tackle his intention was to put the shoulder in to make Matty think twice about what’s coming when he runs in. No problem with that until it goes wrong.
However when it hits the head it’s a sending off nothing more nothing less.
Austin got a brush of the knee and from the replay it was from his own player and put his hand to his head to try stop the game as Hudds were likely to score.
The grin on his face said it all when Thaler was daft enough to go for it. If it was a bad knock fair enough, he’d have needed a head assessment like Walne, but it was in all but name a professional foul. Followed by a blatant trip for which he was rightly sin binned.
The pass to Widdop was forward in any game, but we’ve all seen em given before and will see them given again.
My point Is that Thaler bottled the big decisions in this game and if he’s the best of the refs god help the worst.
Then in the post match interview Price has the neck to bleat about the adversity of two men in the sin bin, Austin should have been in twice and Masilla sent off I think his bleating was a bit rich.
However on a positive note it was the type of game SKY needed after the one before it if we are to secure a good new TV deal.
Be interesting to see what they make of Tomkins little attempted ‘kick’ very petulant in a game that was almost already won but typical of the man.....

As an admittedly traditional RL fan, who yearns for the days of a bit of biff and finds the modern game's offering very soft and quite dull to watch, can you explain how you are meant to tackle somebody without use of the shoulder?.. Surely, using the shoulder is the very basics that are shown to any child?
The whole issue of the BMM tackle is that English dips at the last moment - it is not a deliberate high shot, it's made that way by natural and unlucky circumstance.
Yes, we can debate BMM's technique and intention, but there's no proof of deliberate intent - who's not to say that his intention wasn't to wrap the arm around the oncoming prop on impact and put him on his back?

You should accompany BMM to the disciplinary, maybe you could get a couple of games shaved off the hefty ban he's got coming.
It was a direct attack to the head & should be punished accordingly.

If it was really a direct attack to the head then I'd suggest that BMM would have missed him, as English obviously dips about a foot at the last moment, whilst BMM doesn't change from his initial challenge.
Contact with the head is indisputable, actually saying it was an intentional 'attack' is just rambling nonsense.

We'll just have to agree to disagree & await the experts interpretation.

As a traditional RL fan who played at a decent amateur level in the early 70’s when there were still competitive scrums, I agree you were taught to use the shoulder when tackling someone around the legs and someone else to enter the tackle to stop an offload with his arms and bring the tackled player to ground.
If you watch the replay Masila leads with his shoulder, as I said in my original post it was an attempt to hit Matty English in the high body area and make him think about what would happen on his next run.
However as with a head high arm out tackle it’s fine if you get it right across the ball carrying area as intended but if you get it wrong and it causes injury say as with Chris Hills at Wigan its a sending off as should have been BMM’s. If ME dips it’s only slight and had BMM led with his arms not shoulder it would not have done anywhere near as much damage.
Interestingly enough Thaler called ‘play on’ when it was obvious Matty was ‘spark’ out but then stopped the game for Austin’s ‘kidology’ on the line when he deliberately tried to stop the game and succeeded as we scored. Very poor from Thaler.
As for your ‘grunt’ comment I was at the ‘battle of Fartown’ which ended up 10 v 10 Hudds v Wigan in the 70’s probably the dirtiest match ever played. It’s on You Tube if you care to take a look.
I miss the proper hard men of the game where giving out ‘tap’ was accepted, but it’s changed over the years not always for the better but not always for the worse. But the refs had no TV backup it was what they saw and a lot of hard players were good at blind siding them.
In this game Thaler and Hicks had technology on their side and failed miserably for that there is no excuse.

I think BMM's got off lightly there, he wasn't even charged for a shoulder charge, just a high tackle, i.e. tried to tackle, but reckless about contact.
Either way it makes no difference to Huddersfield now.

This has being going on for years, with what is perceived to be justice (i.e. a ban), or justification for a red card. It's happened to every team, and on many, many occasions. All we can do is suck it up, as these things are out of our hands. One rule that I'd do away with tomorrow, would be the refs option of putting incidents "on report". I'd rather have a ref make a call and stick with it, rather than delegating the job to a panel on the following Tuesday night.

That's not a shoulder charge. It's a commonly misunderstood rule, people think a lot more tackles have been banned than actually have. He has to rotate his body for it to be a shoulder charge, no issues there if he had done the same thing but his him lower. It is a high tackle direct to the head though and should have seen red.
