| Cheers, gents. Sounds like Kings Cross should be a good starting point.

If KX is your starting point you can try 'Parcel Yard' inside the station www.parcelyard.co.uk and 'The Betjeman Arms' at St Pancras International before heading across town...
A few of us are arriving later today - we plan to drink around London Bridge and Bankside as well as taking in 'Borough Market', Stratford is accessible easily enough from there on the Jubilee Line...
'Bunch of Grapes'
'The George'
'The Globe'
'Southwark Tavern'
'Thameside Inn'
'The Anchor'
'Founders Arms'
Safe journey to all travelling down!

| It's 5 minutes of train from Liverpool Street. Don't know what's open at a w/e there but should be places.

Advice to any tight Northerners reading, do not follow this man's advice
Bunch of Grapes, George and Southwark Tavern are pretty average pubs. The others are expensive tourist traps. If drinking in the area, I would switch these for Wheatsheaf (the one next to Katzenjammers, not the one in Borough Market), Rake (in Borough Market), Lord Clyde and Royal Oak (my local)

Agree with most of that especially the Clyde. One of London's finest boozers when I used to knock around the Borough.

| 'The Cow' sits at the edge of the Westfield shopping centre development and the entrance to the Olympic Park (from Stratford). Decent place for a pint pre-match. Average London prices though.

That's where we'll be with a group of 50 dressed as 1980s prop forwards (think mullets, short shorts, 3/4 length shirt sleeves), not sure whether that encourages or discourages you to go...

| Well, beer is expensive in London, fact of life. I was down last week seeing a band, and my son remarked how cheap the beer was cos it was only about $4.20 a pint. Which is indeed very cheap for London.
Saying that, beer is very cheap in Wigan, even compared to the (pretty poor) area I live in.
Anyway, pub near Liverpool St station sounds like a plan. Don't know whether I'll have time, though, depends what time I can get a train to London in the morning, haven't checked yet.
