We have to be aiming to match what they got

1. $1billion
2. Internet and phone deal worth $80-100mill
3. Dedicated NRL channel on Fox
4. National FTA
5. Fixed scheduling
6. Significant contra advertising
Anything less is abject failure. Worrying thing is if we pull up well short the public perception of the strength of AFL against the weakness of NRL is going to be hugely damaging for years to come in terms of sponsorships and popularity. The spotlight now falls firmly on Gallop and the NRL.

lol at the AFL player's already holding their hands out for more money.

I have Fox and I am dreaded the $25mill of advertising a year they are going to be providing AFL. Every time you turn Fox on you just know there is going to be AFL rammed down your throat!

Maybe companies dont want to advertise their product, during a game, continually dragged through the gutter by its players and hence, viewing figures mean squat. I dont know, this is the only reason I could come up with, if, the NRL dont get a bigger TV deal

The Afl has just been announced for 2012-2016, so expect ours from July to a years time.

If there's the appetite for it why aren't there NRL teams in Adelaide and Perth? It does stick out like a sore thumb (to me at least) that two state capitals aren't represented in the national league.

we did ok on that wet sat evening last season to get 12,000 for the storm v canterbury game, but these are one off games, as we dont really have many local rl teams in the area it is hard to judge what the core support in the area would be, all the locals seem to follow afl

Is there any plans to enter a u16/u18 or toyota cup sides?

Has anyone expressed a interest in bidding for a franchise?

not that i know of.rl hardly gets any press coverage in adelaide in the advertiser unless its the run up to our one yearly game at the oval or hindmarsh. only rl fans i know out here are all ex-pats, without a "big" local team to follow the locals all watch their beloved afl teams even though both are very poor

NRL needs to be more proactive in the development of the game in affiliated States. One of the big issues is it is no ones repsonsibility, NRL say it is ARL's, ARL says it is the SARL and the SARL say we can't do anything with no money and no profile for the game.Hopefully the IC and a massive TV deal will help to rectify the fact that RL is hardly mentioned in 1/2 the country. Having one game a year in Adelaide, perth, Darwin etc is worth absolutely nothing to the growth of the game in those states. Funding for development officers, SG Ball sides, FTA TV, media people, 3-4 games a year, NRL roadshows etc etc is what is needed.

Ever considered putting yourself up for it, or in a position to get invovled? Or are you anyway?

My "real" work means I have little time sadly. I am however working with a small group of like minded fans in WA to build a supporters group fro RL fans in WA which will act as the "voice" of RL fans here. I meet regularly with the WARL as well to support them and the bid through the supporters group. Only been going for a couple of months but we are going great guns.
