A lot of players don't have the skills to play the sport either!
They interfere with the game with their presence and rule breaking.
Just accept that it's the players who don't play to the rules most of the time that cause the match officials to "interfere" and that the match officials don't "interfere" unless the players mess up!

| With touchie stood a metre away it should never have been referred. But then again touch judges do nothing in rugby league, they don't get involved in the slightest bit other than marking the 10.
THEY DO NOT EVEN DO THIS WITH ANY CLARITY.

Or with interactive TV now perhaps sky could ask the viewer to press the red button if they think a try has been scored, a time limit of 30 seconds could be set and after that period a graphic showing the results flashes up on the big screen.

I like it.
Not sure if it was a try? Lets ask the audience!

It just seems that they look for things that aren't there. The Ali try late on was never a try, there wasn't a single angle anywhere at any time during that incident where the ball hit the floor. Ali's reaction (After celebrating to try and kid the ref into not using the video) was honest enough, they lined up for the tap. That in my eyes is enough to not give it. I just don't know what they were thinking. The ball was grounded on the leg of the player and then someone else came in with both hands under the ball. The match ref told the video ref, who basically ignored the video footage and the referees call and came up with something totally different.

Indeed, they aren't ex players, that in the heat of particular moment, could use a bit of a rugby league common sense. Too many 'textbook' ref's.

Like the analogy!
So the best Police , for example to catch burglers would be? and the best ones to catch murderers , terrorists etc., etc
Rugby league common sense. One of the best oxymorons in years.
A bit like MI6!!!!!

If that's the sign of things to come (last night's display), yet again, the game's been talked about through absurd referee decisions.
Want another cliche?
Rugby League certainly shot itself in the foot last night, for the watching audience and the thousands of 'Crusaders' fans that hadn't been to a game before. Will they come back?

| There was a report last week that in South African Rugby Union, a TV monitor will be placed near each in-goal area allowing the on-field referee the ability to review try scoring situations. That would be another excellent innovation that would make refereeing more consistent and restore the adjudicating power to the on-field referee, rather than the video ref.
SARU referees are also trialling rla camera attached to a referee's headrl, which would help give feedback to current referees, train/mentor upcoming referees.

For me that will simply make the refs job even harder.
ATM the VR process gives the ref a chance for both a mental and physical break. If he's the one making the VR decisions he won't be getting these breaks, and ultimately his decisions will suffer because of fatigue.
He'll also receive more pressuring from players to make the *right* decision. He'll also be risking hassle after making an error like Friday's.

| I don't think you can do away with the video ref, all decisions would then be left to an unsighted referee who has problems making desicions when he has an unobstructed view !!
