Is it? If its a rugby league town, why are they having a hard time filling the football teams stadium for an international?
Do you think there would be a similar problem if the england football team were playing Brazil there?

I must admit to having a bit of fun. But if Smith was planning on playing Tomkins - a press release to say this guy will be in my 17 somewhere on Saturday would see a natural surge in tickets from the locals. I am not from Wigan. However, I am excited by the prospect of this lad taking on the best. If I am then the fans who have seen him develop week in week out would be looking forward to this game tenfold.

What is the point in that???? This thread is about filling an international game, and you have to try and score cheap points.
THIS is why the International Game has little to no support, because tosspots like this put club before Country!!!!

Smith named the side on Tuesday or Wednesday last week and will do that again this week i'd imagine so if he does name Tomkins people will have plenty of time to go out and get tickets.
It may be seen as Wiganers being abit fickle but as a town thats so used to having their 'own' representing them for the national side it would be very unusual to have no Wigan players in the team for Saturday and that would naturally put some of the floaters off. The fans that just decide on the spare of the minute wheather they should go or not.
If Tomkins is in the side i'd expect at least 22/23,000 on but if he's not the crowd could dip under the 20k mark.
It really could have that sort of effect on the attendance imo.

| Maybe ringing the DW Stadium is the way to go. Just bought tickets by phoning the RFL. Only back row and front 5 rows left in most of South Stand and North Stand(cheapest tickets behind the sticks). When I asked how ticket sales were going they reckoned on 70 -75% sold already.RFL hype or true? Who knows. Is that a success 5 days before the biggest international game over here for a couple of years. Anyway, got 3 tickets and can't wait. Here's hoping for a great game and atmosphere a la Tri Nations 2004. (And yes I am aware that there's very little chance of victory).

As has been said already, the train to Wigan is the best bet from many locations. Get to Wigan early, have a few drinks and enjoy the game. Buy your tickets people.

| I find it weird that in the whole of England there isn't 30,000 RL fans that want to see players like Inglis and Slater live and in the flesh. Regardless of Englands chances or the likely result I would pay good money every day of the week to see that sort of talent play. How many times in your life will you get to see live a backline like the Australian one play?
very strange and somewhat depressing!

Its probably because you can watch it on telly
Whats better??
Sitting at home, feet up, cold beer or 7, great view of things on your 42" LCD idiot box or travel up to the north of England, sit in a draughty stadium where you usually need at least 2 hats, 3 scarves and 2 replica footy jumpers on to watch.
And if you are behind the sticks you will only really get to see one half close up anyway
Waste of time

| You can't beat seeing a game live, the build up, the anticipation travelling down, the atmosphere at the game, seeing players up close and realising they aren;t very tall, feeling robbed till you get home and see it on replay and realise the ref was right all along, drinking too much and missing the 1st 10mins of the 2nd half trying to get in the toilet, sounding like Lockyer the next day because you've sung yourself ho, you can't beat it!
You are living in the right place you Southern softie!

| Can't abuse 13 ockers sat in front of the telly, reason enough to attend.

I agree.
If you are watching it at ANZ or the Suncorp.
Or Toyota Park
But the fact is....this is england ...Wigan in particular in this case
Although to be fair thats not important...it could be anywhere up north
Its usually cold.
wet.
miserable
foggy
Full of people no one that lives further south than Warrington can understand who all boo the national anthem, drink weak beer in plastic glasses and eat the most repulsive tasting pies in the world whilst screaming unintelligble things at everyone from the ref to their own mates.
Not a good experience is it

All of which are preferable to sitting next to some smug ocker.
