| Quote: SmokeyTA "yet if everything you were to have put here was the case, If all amateur migrant players who were playing on holiday or student visas for NL1/NL2 teams in 2008 were playing out their contracts then these players must have been amateur players signed to 4 year contracts to take them through the season from when the rules changed in 2005, the 2006 season, 2007 and 2008 only to be surprised they couldnt be re-registered in 2009
but thats not what happened, what happened was Mcphail and Jamieson were allowed to play as amatuers on a holiday visa because the had jobs in the local area, the same as celtic did, then a change in the rulings before the beginning of THIS season, meant that any player who received any payment at all for playing RL, even if it wasnt their main source of income now needed a tier 2 visa rather than a standard one, and a ruling by UKBA before THIS season that [ino overseas migrant may play rugby league with a professional or semi-professional club as an amateur.[/i'"
any chance of a response to this starbug,
or have we reached that stage of a celtic thread were logic and facts are ignored in favour of shameless rfl/expansion/celtic/everybody who doesnt hate SL bashing as you usually do?

| Quote: eddiewaringsflatcap "It never ceases to amaze me that there are some who adopt this defence mechanism at the moment some ill thought out scheme has gone amiss.
Maybe they adopted it when the RFL planned a world cup game between NZ Maori and Lebanon at Reading on a cold Tuesday evening.
I despair at those stuck in a pscychosis that any criticism of anything that is out of the so called Rugby heartland is a besmitchment to the game.
Let me spell this out. Celtic are guilty of a gross oversight, and their operations this season have been simillarly devoid of substance.
If they were an employee in an a company they would be on some sort of perfromance management.'"
its the same defence mechanism that stopped us giving up on world cups after one poor one, and led to a £2M 100% success in australia last year,
the same mechanism that kept catalans in SL rather than dumping them after one poor year leading them to go onto the unmitigated success they now are,
the same mechanism that hasnt given up on a london team, as the flatcappers would have liked, which has led and is leading to a massive new player pool that simply wasnt there before at all
the same mechanism that didnt give up on the grand final after the first poor year, 10 years later it is now the biggest date in the calendar, and the most important game and trophy in british rugby league,
its the same mechanism that still pushed the tri-nations, now a regular, well attended, supported, watched, international competition despite the disaster it was at first
its called taking a long term view, mixed in with actually having a little ambition for the game, you should try it, when you do you see these little blips as just detours on the road to success, it also helps you see maybe everything isnt the RFL/Celtic/Expansions fault and it even allows you to take the time to wait for, read, digest and understand the facts before you make a decision,
overall, it allows you to protect your knees by stopping them jerking and hitting the table constantly

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Sure no problem , the reason I didn't reply was simple , you are wrong , you have not read the statement by Craig Spence in the RL and LE
He states
Quote: SmokeyTA "The system had changed in 2005, however , after a period between 2003 and 2005 when players were allowed to play sport for semi professional clubs with working holiday visas .
Many clubs took advantage of this arrangementto recruit overseas players who wouldn't otherwise qualify to play in this country , and the UKBA gave a concession in 2005 to allow players who were playing with working holiday visas to play out their contracts
But , in 2005 , one club , thought to be Gateshead , challenged the UKBA , arguing that it should be able to play geuinely amatuer players who come to the country with working holiday visas .
The home office supported thhe club and went against it's own rule
From that point onwards the RFL adopted a policy whereby it agreed to register some overseas players while not encouraging it '"
All seems fairly straight forward to me

So you are saying the RFL's policy of sticking its head in the sand and pretending it didn't happen is a defence mechanism
Brilliant

Black Backgrounds/Zoot.gif Freedom for supporters of the government, only for members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively for one who thinks differently.

| In an interview on Sport Wales last night Leighton Samuel stated that he's going to carry on backing the club for at least the next 2 years and possibly beyond, so the flatcappers can stop dreaming of CC dropping out and the whingeing fraternity from Widnes getting a place (there was also a small gloat at the problems in English RU, Welsh RU supporters are HUGELY enjoying bloodgate!).

Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?” He replied, “Well then I would be a Warrington fan.”

Most Widnes fans do not want to replace Celtic.

Even if we weren't they'd still blame us. It completely detracts from any problems to make it out as just bitter Widnes fans. Ignoring all the other posters on the topic from other clubs and people from the media is in their best interest.
Just out of interest in the opening few pages there were fans of the following clubs who criticised CC, Leeds, Leigh, Fax, St Helens, Hull KR, Cas, Huddersfield, Saints etc etc
Widnes fans were also provoked into a reply by a 'brace yourself for the Widnes fans' comment.
