I doubt the person who wrote the article will mind, his sensationalistic way with words has increased web traffic on his report, that's all the journalists seem to care about nowadays - getting more readers (in any way they can). More ad impressions (potentially leading to ad clicks) means more moneyyyyy.

It's all we - or more accurately our employers - have ever cared about.

Of course the press want to get as many readers as they can, but it's the way they go about it. It's a shame the readers won't flock to high quality journalism instead of that which just uses pretty colours and the harshest words. I know though that it's just human nature/in our culture to be interested in the the more shocking/less trivial things in life, e.g. the blown out of proportion Richard Keys/Andy Gray incident.

There's a good book from the 80s called [iLies, damned lies and Sun exclusives[/i that's worth a look. There's nothing new under (or indeed in) the sun. Padgett making a funny aside in a light column that RL fans don't find funny is pretty far down the list when it comes to the sins of journalism, tabloid or broadsheet.

But as we only discuss RL topics on this board we wont be concerned with it would we , that would be a topic for the ' sin bin '

In other words , stop trying to defend the muppet or change the subject

A quick google scan of the author of this comment would show that some posters on here should try to group together with fans of:
Soccer Clubs,
Union Clubs,
The B&I Lions
Most international rugby Unions
International soccer associations
The FA
The Lawn Tennis Association
Curling
Crown Green Bowls and fri99in tiddlywinks.
This uber-consumer group could then lobby the Govenment for more fairness in the Media.....good luck with that

Really couldn't care less what Mr padgett says about anything , as put earlier , he is a proffessional journalist trying to be an amatuer comedian , and failing at both IMO
