Has the quota system changed on the quiet or did I miss something?
I can't see any mention of Non-federation in this, just 5 overseas players with all the old passport loopholes.

I always thought Cory Patterson was okay at Rovers, but it's really milking it to arrange a press conference etc.
Salford have recruited an awful lot better than they did last year, but I'm still not sold. Still think they are a 7th or 8th place team.

IIRC the Overseas Quota (ie nationality) is still set at 5 but the Non-Federation Trained (where the player was developed) was bizarrely raised to 7 last year.
IIRC most players with Pacific Island nationality would be exempt from the Overseas Quota and Chase almost certainly will be exempt and Hansen definitely will be.
However the Non-Fed Trained rules will catch most of them as it's not based on nationality so can't be got around by, for instance, getting an EU passport. Again Hansen will be exempt as he's British and developed here, and Dobson will be exempt as he was playing in the UK pre-2008 (when the Non-Fed Trained rules were brought in).
Which, with the removal of Groat, brings them down to 7 Non-Fed Trained. |
