I guess there’s always the argument that most clubs would swap making a final and semi-final in consecutive seasons.
My view is that we lack a big game player, not a big game coach.

Composure. These big games are rarely high scoring. You've just got to go set for set, but just like last year's final, Cas just panicked when they come up against champion defence. Way to beat that defence is keep banging the door until you break through. Repeat set after repeat set. How many times to Cas kick on the third tackle!? Bonkers from them. Thats where Gale should be taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

We just got the job done tonight with no fuss and played ideal play off rugby. I thought Cas lost their identity tonight which they built up last year and at times this season. They were kicking it out five mins in and trying to play a really conservative game and you’d have to go some to beat a Wigan side at that game when you consider a lot of our players have been grinding these games out for the best part of ten years now.

If Cas got the chance over I think they’d come and play a more expansive game.

Wigan by exactly 14. Called it here. The wrong Cas turned up. Not all Cas playing bad though. Our defence was decent. Just silly penalties from Milner and Wigan defence.

Maybe. I don’t really think it’s fair to use the 2014 challenge Cup Final team to beat the current team with. It was more or less a completely different set of players, particularly in pivotal positions.
My worry s that our pivots aren’t improving with experience. I thought Gale would benefit from both last year’s grand final and World Cup Final. But he
was equally as poor tonight.
McShane, Gale and Roberts were our pivots last year. Again, none of them seemed to have learnt from last year’s big games.

I think we're on the same boat to an extent- there are 6 big games (semis and finals) each year that need these big game players you mention to win. Its much easier to be the big team for the rest of the year (see St Helens 2018, Cas 2017 as recent examples and, as a Leeds fan, Leeds 2005).
