| Quote: stew88_RL "only the nose defensive tackles and to a lesser extent the offensive guards and centre are huge, but these are the exception. the other linesmen are generally very fast and have great acceleration, especially the defensive ends who love to get at the QB quick despite being well over 6ft and hefty themselves.
'"
Sometimes even those big guys will display surprising athleticism. Last November I was watching the NCAA Big 12 game between Nebraska and Colorado on TV. Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh, a defensive linemen who's 6'4" and weighs 300 pounds, intercepted a Colorado pass and took it 30 yards the other way for a touchdown. If I hadn't seen it myself, I'd never have believed a guy that big would have that type of ability. Considering how many guys there are playing college football in the US, there are likely a significant number capable of playing RL too.

i seen a similar thing in the NFL a few seasons ago, name eludes me, but he was a huge nose tackle and made a fairly decent catch which he nearly returned for a TD. in terms of swithover between the codes i would say they would be very capable of getting RL fitness given how good US conditing coaches are. but technique and ball security would be the biggest handicap for crossover to RL given even the slight variation in ball shape iis still alien to them. defensive players would especially struggle for technique i think, although the linebackers and safetys athletcism and strength would be a great asset in RL. Bottom line is some positions would cross over pretty well. i.e receivers to outside backs, tight ends line backers, safetys to forwards and Off and Def tackles to the biggest props ever seen
will the grand final be shown live there??

From an American perspective, this specialization is what turns me off. All players are already groomed to play either offense or defense, but even within that realm, they are confined to a few positions. Commentators will make note of a guy switching from offensive tackle to offensive guard, like it takes a different kind of fat to block the same pass rush. If a guy gets injured (pretty usual) then he gets replaced but another faceless guy from the 53-man roster. They're really more pieces than players. The competitors are the coaches as much as the players on the field. It's all very mechanical and too many names to follow.

Same rules as League Bev
What I mean is what most people see when watching is not players tackling but blocking. there is only one tackle in each play but as many as 9 or 10 blocks( blockers are not allowed to hold, just push/obstruct forward momentum) to the casual viewer from a rugby background they look like poor attempts at tackling. What is evident is that when watching the NFL is that they hardly ever miss a tackle one on one if they can get past the blocking & that would transfer directly to League.
