| Quote: headhunter "French clubs already have a semi-pro league to play in. Therefore having one team playing in another semi-pro league, especially one that requires much higher travelling costs, is pointless. French teams should either be in the semi-pro Elite league, or the full-time Super League. Having them in the Championship achieves nothing as it's no step up in terms of the infrastructure of the club. Scorpions are a semi-pro team and are thus playing in the relevant semi-pro competition. They don't have anything to do with Toulouse or any other French teams.'"
It isn't often we agree , but on the subject of Toulouse in the Championship , I concur , I would be much happier if the money spent flying players and staff over the channel was spent on building up one or two new British based Championship clubs

They have contributed by putting awareness of RL in areas there wasn't before , and have enabled players in those areas to play RL to a much higher standard than they could have done previously , they have done this without considerable extra costs from central funds

Except Toulouse have been playing since 1937 , and as Headhunter posted , they have a perfectly good local competition of similar standard to the Championship that they have and can play in to prepare for any future SL application , so there are hardly any similarities at all

not a problem for me mate - i'm quite happy watching the LER - FCL and others have been great this season with some decent crowds that would put the Championship to shame - the problem is with the RFL who seem to want to do the expanding bit.Ask them why they want the french teams involved ?
FCL (playing in Narbonne) have made a bid for some kind of Championship representation along with Toulouse so it's in the hands of the RFL it would seem ?

Which would be totally pointless

The RFL is not known for it's bright ideas so nothing would surprise me !
The FFR is just as bad in many respects - for example,
this weekend is the play-off game between FCL & Pia - it KOs at 1730 with a junior game at 1530 - it just so happens that Catalans v Hudds KOs at 1830 ! which means that if the FCL game KOd at 1500 ish then there would be at least 1000 more for the Cats game, about one hours drive away - totally ridiculous planning !
also, the French GF is at Narbonne on the 14th may which clashes exactly with the TO v Hunslet game - another ridiculous decision by Mr Larrat and his cronies...

It's not the same company it's a different one, and that happens when a company goes into administration. Rugby league players are no different and have no less rights than any other employee in the UK when their company goes into administration.

Is it really that hard to comprehend that if Toulouse weren't in the Championship they'd be in another similarly strong French semi-pro league, but if Scorpions weren't, they'd either be amateur or non-existent?
There is no real logical comparison at all except that they aren't English. There'd be more logical a comparison between Scorpions and Skolars.

Don't get me wrong I'd agree with you that employees should be paid and the rules around administration in the UK shouldn't be as weak but rugby players are just as unprotected as any other employees here, sadly.

That is so far fetched. Being from Northern Ireland myself I can say there isn't any part of the island ready for a championship team never mind a super league team.
The upside to that article is they are doing work in the real world, working to expand the Irish player base. Which should have positives in the long. Especially if they can find a few more players like Tim Bergin who has been doing reasonably well.
