The Tongan squad is packed with NRL and SL players amd are well drilled.......they were run close by a Lebanon side who would have treated this game as their final....Tonga would have been hard pressed to back up after the elation of turning the Kiwis over and believe me, 30,000 Tongans' cheering them on at Mt Smart will make for probably the most intense atmosphere that any of the England players will have ever faced.

I called an Aussie v Tonga final at the start and I stand by it........Tonga v England at Mt Smart will see a packed house and 99% of them will be Tongan'" I'm out here and if Perth is anything to go by then there is good England support here in numbers. Assuming we get past PNG today I'm looking forward to the 'Tonga effect' on the crowd atmosphere in Auckland but England will not lack for support.

| Yeah I can't see us lacking support although we'd clearly be outnumbered (should we make it). If all these English fans are going to travel all the way to Oz for a couple of games, I'm sure they'll hop on a flight and take the reasonably short trip over to Auckland.
It's a shame we didn't get on the side of the draw that could've seen us in a Brisbane semi though. I'm sure between the league fans who've gone over and the thousands of barmy army fans in town for the Ashes, we'd have had one hell of a support.

Of the 24k at Hamilton 2 weeks back I'd say 20,000 of them were supporting Tonga........Mt Smart is a 5 stop train ride from Manakau which has a massive Tongan community......it's a short walk from Otahuhu which was the area of South Auckland that has the most Tongan support......if it sells out I reckon that there'll be 26,000 Tongans and maybe 4k English at best

I agree, no matter what odds the bookies have concocted out of thin air.

It’s
England 4/6
Tonga 13/8
Draw 22/1
Where I’m looking. England are slight favourites.
It’s simple really we need to make less errors.

Give over. The games in the southern hemisphere, all atmospheres are crap. All England players have played in super league, a Leeds Wakefield game had a more intimidating atmosphere than anything down under.

Have you watched any of the Tongan games in New Zealand? I don’t think you have, as you wouldn’t be describing it as crap. The same goes for the games in PNG.

Don't be so detached from reality. The games in which Tonga has played have been intense and rich with thousands of Tonga fans singing and chanting. Samoa had its supporters but they were out-enthused by the Tongan fans. The same thing applied when New Zealand played Tonga. The NZ resident on this forum is an expert on the ethnic demography of New Zealand and is calling it like it is.

The odds there are probably more to do with the likely betting pattern than what the bookies think the most likely result is. So much money will be put on England that they don't need to be generous with odds. I'll bet the odds in Oz/NZ are quite different.
