| 1.London RL (Nicknamed the Broncos).
2.Stay at the Stoop, which isn't actually a Union heartland, it's just where the Union lot happen to have their stadium....you wouldn't describe Wembley as a soccer heartland, would you?
3.Return to the Fulham colours.
4.Spend some f****ng money on proper marketing.
.......disregard points 1, 2 & 3 if you don't do point 4.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Marketing
I love it how this always comes up.
A world cup has an international audience, who are the real audience of Hull KR and Cas...two medium size club sides?
I think sometimes league fans need a reality check. They like to go on about how RL is the Greatest Game and is unmissable and so on but when games are on TV a lot of fans would rather just watch the TV than pay to get in the stadium. It's a good game but it's not THAT good. The problem isn't a lack of awareness of when games are being played (which marketing would solve) its RL fans choosing not to go.
You will see that when the internationals are on, rl forums are full of chat by people sat at home watching the TV during the international matches commenting (while the games are going on) on the internet about how bad the crowd looks on TV and how bad the RFL marketing is. They all knew the game was on they just couldn't be bothered with it!
As for Harlequins/London it will be the same old story - other than a small handful of loyal fans, London isn't interested in rugby league. I am sure they will carry on staggering on as they always do and we will get the usual stories about all the good work London is doing getting kids playing rugby league and there won't be long before all these London born lads start playing in Super League, as we've been hearing for 25 years.

Black Backgrounds/Zoot.gif Freedom for supporters of the government, only for members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively for one who thinks differently.

Apparently have an agreement with the Denver Broncos to use the name. We changed from being the London Crusaders to the London Broncos at the end of January '94, when Brisbane bought us from the RFL (I still have a chuckle at the idea that Aussies, of all people, would buy something on spec from a rails bookie, i.e. a certain Mr. Lindsay, M.). This all came up on a thread on the Quins forum a long time back, and I haven't the time at the moment to find it.

Is the local community around Wembley the typical demographic profile of football... yes. And is the community of Richmond the typical demographic of Rugby Union (in the South East in particular)... yes

| Take your point about Wembley, but though typical demographic profile of a person in Richmond may suit Union, Twickenham, only maybe, but everywhere else around the immediate area (Whitton, Hounslow, Isleworth and Christ almighty Feltham)..............Nah!

| I don't know much about London RL at grass root level but where are these teams based? Someone told me most the teams are in east London, is this true? If it is why don't they move the club into that area?

No......Wembley has a high proportion of Asian and Caribbean residents when compared to other London Boroughs.......so no, Wembley isn't as soccer mad as you would like people to think.
Quote: Dunbar " And is the community of Richmond the typical demographic of Rugby Union (in the South East in particular)... yes'"
No...wrong again! TW postcodes include Brentford, Hounslow, Feltham, St Aines on Thames (Staines) and other not so middle class areas. Some of the council high rises in Twickenham are considered the worst in the region and Feltham/Staines is a no go area at night.
As for the South East of England, the lack of professional clubs East of Harlequins RU would seem to blow that out of the water.......if the SE was a demographic Goldmine for Union I reckon there'd be a few teams in the East......there isn't. The demographic breakdown of London is the most diverse in the UK. To try to pigeon-hole any one borough as a certain class (other than Chelsea/Westminster...and they have council blocks too) shows a total lack of undersdtanding of how demographic and direct marketing works.

| The only way to break into the London consciousness and media is to have a successful side. Marketing a losing team is like pi55ing in the wind. Get to the Grand Final a couple of times and win the Cup people will go and watch. The last 6 years have seen progressively worse performances and only us complete nutters carried on going.

Marketing any losing side is difficult , just like marketing a lower tier club , in a lower tier competition , but in sport there are always exactly the same number of losers as winners , so no control over that , you just have to try harder
