| Quote: PHIPPS "So you think if there were some good young Welsh players coming on in South Wales and a scout from the Scarlets, Blues or Ospreys offered them a contract they would knock it back?'"
Why are you talking about individual players when I was talking about the club as a whole? It's a diversion of the argument because your attempted little dig at the Scorpions was so poor that you're trying a new angle.
But to answer, if they were talented and were offered a contract by the aforementioned clubs, I would also think they'd be offered a contract by the Crusaders as well, and I reckon (as rugby league players) they'd give the code they've learned their trade in a go first before chasing the cash.

So if a Welsh rugby player was offered the chance to play for Crusaders (which then might lead on to playing for Wales national RL side who lets be honest have about as much chance of winning anything as a one legged Donkey has of winning the Grand national) or union club sides like the Blues, Scarlets or Ospreys which might lead on to playing for the Wales Union side in the 6 Nations or the RUWC which one do you reckon he will choose?

I suppose it depends upon which sport he prefers to play!
It's like lots of jobs, some are every well paid but not everyone wants to do them for various reasons, some obvious some not so.
At the end it's up to the individual to decide.

Thanks for pointing out another reason why there should be a super league team in south Wales

As the Celtic Crusaders disaster proved there is only one code of Rugby that counts in South Wales and it's not league.

You could say exactly the same about any English rugby league player.

There is more than enough basic ' rugby ' talent in South Wales to provide enough players for a decent Championship club , if those players decide they would rather play union , then fine , there will be another twenty in the next village who might fancy something different , and so on and so on
Eventually there might be enough to provide enough quality to put together a SL squad , if the club build slowly and properly they will get to whatever level they can
As for the Celtic Crusaders , that was just another example of how not to do it

I disagree actually. Thankfully most English born Rugby League players are originally from areas where the sport is more popular than union.

And therefore would be more inclined to remain in the more popular code for that area.
RU is more popular than League in South Wales therefore you would suggest that they would sooner play RU.

Yes , and that is unlikely to change even if we have a club in SL trying to compete by filling itself full of Aussies and losing money hand over fist

Your point was that they have a choice between playing RU (where they could play for Wales in more meaningful international competition that they have a chance of winning) or RL. They were the reasons you used, not me. I have suggested that the exact same could be applied to any English RL player. You have now changed it to a popularity contest.
Just because something is more popular, doesn't mean that everyone likes it. It doesn't mean that everyone SHOULD like it. And it doesn't mean everyone WILL like it. Therefore, why should a rugby LEAGUE player that might prefer to play rugby league (the fact that they are playing this over rugby union suggests this from the start) want to go to rugby union? Because everyone else in the area likes it? Hmm... not everyone is a sheep. Because of the "prestige" of playing in better international competition and a chance of winning it (your first suggestions)? Hmm... the English don't seem to be jumping straight over to union at every chance they get.
So what's your next suggestion?
