| Quote: Pats plastic pitch "Widnes has tried for years to tap into the Liverpool market, as has St. Helens. Your issue with a footballing city/town, when they’re not watching Liverpool/Everton/tranmere, football still takes up a massive proportion of their weekend lives. If they’re not playing amateur football themselves, they’ll be watching their kids or friends play in the Ken Dodd league on a Sunday afternoon.
Be interesting like I keep saying to see how it all pans out but it’s a non starter for me.'"
Have they really though? I’d be genuinely interested to know what both Widnes and Saints have done to try and tap into Liverpool. I’d say they’re on to a loser anyway. Most people from Liverpool aren’t going to automatically associate themselves with small towns on the outskirts of the area.
A team called and playing under a Liverpool badge is a different prospect.

Indeed, like Leigh and Salford, people from Manchester don't see them as "their" team.

were have i said i don't like Liverpool, i like it very much, maybe go back to the start of the post that i responded to which started all this, it was a joke what don't you get, don't make out your all offended and make out i have said something offensive because i haven't. and back to the topic i thoroughly support this new venture which i have already said is a great idea.

Evidence please ?
We have fans that I personally know from Stockport and Gorton, and my very own mate who lives in Burnage whilst not attending openly states his team is Salford. So what your basing your assumptions on god only knows.

Oh come on. Of course people from a different area aren’t going to think of another town as their team just because it’s nearby. Yes there’s always a handful who are brought to it by friends etc but the vast majority of people who think of themselves as from Manchester aren’t going to immediately associate themselves with Salford.
Think of it this way. If there were no RL teams in Leeds would Cas get the 15K Leeds fans? They’d get some no doubt but nowhere near the same amount.
Of course a club can pull some fans from all over but it’s base is from the area it’s named after.

| I mentioned it again in work before to a couple of scousers, the jury’s our anyway.
I can’t see it working however if it does and it gets the kids in the schools of Liverpool playing and supporting rugby league in general, then that’s the success there. They are mad on sports, just don’t think this is one RL can tap into in Scouse land.

Except I am a Leigh fan from Manchester born & bred, though I have lived in Leigh. I only know of one other Mancunian Leigh fan & though there may be more I concede that we will be a tiny minority. *We also have 1 or 2 Irish fans*.

Well a smaller scale example would be Pontefract which is a Featherstone heartland. So people question how big Feath can get because its a village of 15k, but in reality Ponty is Featherstone too with another 30k.
A bradford fan eulogising about the crowd potential of Feath. I must have had my tea spiked.

No, they'd go back to Bradford...

I do find it odd that he gave Salford away and then wants to start a new club, in a new ground, in Sefton, which isn't really Liverpool as such.

| I bet Saints, Warrington and Widnes are chuffed to bits about this one.
IF there ever is a successful Liverpool RLFC, it would have more "draw" than the other clubs in that area.
