Nice deflection. You truly are weird.

| Quote: Biff Tannen "Taken from BBC-
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats chairman Michael Carter has admitted he had a "frosty" relationship with former coach Brian Smith.
Smith, 61, quit his role as head coach on Tuesday after 10 months in the job, despite signing a new deal in October.
His former assistant Stuart Dickens has been put in charge of the team for Friday's game against St Helens.
"By his manner you could tell this wasn't a decision that was going to get changed," Carter told BBC Radio Leeds.
"We've had a frosty relationship since Christmas and those reasons will stay with me. He was the highest paid coach we've ever had and it's the highest playing budget we've ever had here.
"Quitting is not an option for some of us and we have to live with the hand we were dealt."
Smith joined the club in May 2015 and helped them retain their Super League status by beating Bradford in the Million Pound Game.
But the Wildcats have won only one of their five Super League matches this term and are 10th in the table.
Smith criticised the effect the schedule was having on his squad before leaving his post.
"From my point of view I've tried to back him to the hilt with everything he's wanted, but I guess at the end of the day it was never enough," Carter added.
"I want somebody in as quickly as possible. We need stability and we need to start to focus on winning games."'"
This update from Smith overnight is a bit weird. I always think people should shy away from cryptic comments making reference to supposed goings on behind the scenes. You're tempted to say "come on then let's have it out then".
If you're prepared to mention it you should be prepared to go into further detail and provide proof IMO.
Is he that big a loss to Wakefield? His record at a Wakefield against Superleague opposition was worse than Webster's and with the squad they've got this year Id expect them to have improved on last year.
Who knows?

| Brian Smith was fired from the Sydney Roosters. He took them to a Grand Final in 2010, armed with the Dally M winner of that year, Todd Carney (now at Catalans Dragons). But then the next year the side's performance collapsed, and Smith was held responsible. He was always known as a very tough and quirky guy, with little personal charm (unlike his British brother Anthony).
I suspect that in the difficult environment of Wakefield Trinity, with its financial limitations, Brian Smith just snapped. Certainly, as the esteemed Chairman Carter describes it, Brian Smith announced his resignation in an abrupt and rude way.

What the hell does he mean by that?
The whole thing seems a bit odd. I was assuming he left due to there not being enough funding for what he wanted to do but surely Smith knew what state the club was in when he took the job and certainly knew it at the end of 2015.
Im struggling to think of what Smith could be alluding to that would be so serious for him to quit.

Its a deflection on the real reasons he quit - he's spent all the money that the club had available and still we don't look too competitive. I don't think we are too far away - but BS didnt look capable of delivering it.
I think he has bailed before it all became too obvious that his methods were failing.

On the limited info we've got it does appear that way. Which is very disappointing. If he wasn't committed to this season he should've left at the end of 2015.

Yep. You would think during the end of season brief, what was and was not available to him for 2016 would have been made clear to Smith. Once them restraints have been set, and you decide to go on and live by them you can't then throw the toys out of the pram blaming the club whose stance was made clear some time ago. That is assuming Smith wasn't fed false promises of course.

Yeah that's how I see it too. I think Smith possibly didn't fully realise what kind of state Wakefield were/are in and it's probably just dawned on him that a good season for Wakefield is not finishing 12th. A truly amazing season would be finishing 8th.
(Now I hope Wakefield fans don't take that as an attack on their club, it's certainly not meant as one.)
I just can't see what issues could be at play at Wakefield that would cause him to quit mid-season other than lack of funding which is well known. Even if he'd been promised some extra funding in some areas and didn't get it, he'd have to know that's a possibility given the incredibly tight financial situation at Wakefield.
It can't be salary cap issues because they're nowhere close to the cap. If it's drugs issues then they need a new dealer because the stuff they're on clearly ain't working.
So sounds to me like he's realised he really can't make much headway and there's the possibility they could be relegated which would be a hammer blow to his career, so he's jumped ship and left Wakefield in the lurch.

| Yeah agree with the above. Probably thought he could give it a decent shot at being in the top 8 but then has already realised he didn't stand a chance and thought "screw it" in terms of sticking around to spend his time getting beaten easily most weeks.

| I don't understand Brian Smith., He was on very good money at Wakefield. He has no immediate prospect of becoming an NRL coach. In fact he is unlikely to become an NRL head coach ever again. Yet he is forfeiting hundreds of thousands of pounds by walking out on his Wakefield contract. Weird!

Oh J.C. you do make me smile.
To get to the truth of why he packed his bags, all you have to do is ask the right question .
Oh well, it gives the club time to employ a new coach to sort the team out during the pre-season, ready for the middle eights.

Probably just had enough and saw it as a lost cause, what we saw of the Wakefield Players last night I think the best coach in the NRL would struggle.

Agree with your points about the players.
The four coaches we've had since John Kear have all lacked something - passion. Agar was only here through his pal Elston, Wbetser wasn't really ready, Dickens (how he still has a job is beyond me) is a joke, and Smith, despite having more money then his predecessor, has called quits because he lacks the heart and courage for the fight ahead.

I agree but I still think it's very poor of Smith. If he didn't fancy it for 2016 he should've left at the end of 2016 and at least given Wakefield time to get another coach in for pre-season.
Or he should've stuck with his decision until the end of this season.
