And your home grown players in that list to a massive 4. Don't get too carried away just yet.

| We have not enough quality Props and some crazy foo's choice of a halfback partner for Bosc. 2011 will be an exercise in pain.

| KR's imports are rubbish but Wigan's imports are quality???? There's a problem when the likes of Carmont, Roberts and Richards (MoS FFS) are considered 'quality'. Finch is a nothing player as well, although he does have a kicking game. Not arguing they are quality in SL terms, but seriously you are way off the mark in absolute terms.

Behave yourself.
Carmont has been consistently one of the better centres in the league the last few years - just have a look at the try stats for the winger playing outside him (be it Richards, Pryce or Ainscough).
Roberts was a bit poor last year, but at the start of this year before his injury was unplayable at times. If he can get that form back then the Wigan backline is only going to get better.
And as for Richards, to call him anything but Quality is lunacy. Admittedly, we've had some dud imports recently, but these 3 are most certainly not. I don't know enough about Finch to comment on him really, but if he does as well as Carmont has for instance then i for one will be happy.

That is the Giants team i will expect that we will see.
We seem to be concentrating on youth and English born players.
Ken Davy is trying to make us finacially viable and is not spending the cash like he previously has done.
Only one significant signing for us in the off season. Am looking forward to see what the kids can do this year in covering for injuries..
I dont think we have enough to worry the top 4 teams on a consistent level. Should beat some of them in one off games but that is it.

I think the fact he's only had 1 or 2 good months in 2 years (slated by his own fans before his good spell, struggling to make an impact in the reserves after it) tells you a fair bit.
Richards is a good quality import no doubt. As are Finch/Hoffman/Lima IMO.
Carmont is average and it's the signing of players like him, Phelps and Brett Delaney (journeymen backs) by our top clubs that keeps England rubbish in the outside backs. Before you cite dream team inclusion, Ade Gardner has made that team in the backs in the past and is also very average.

I think that's fair about Roberts, but we're not going to agree on the Carmont issue. If you look at his stats for this season, he's scored more tries, more try assists, made more metres forward, made more tackles and more clean breaks than Matt Gidley (or Michael Shenton for a British comparison), and no-one doubts his quality.
In my eyes, one of the best overseas signings Wigan have had in recent years and a fantastic bit of business to bring him over.

Gidley was absolutely dreadful this year and Shenton played for a Cas that didn't make the play-offs.

He's the sort of "done well for a cheap no mark" signing that is one of the problems with SL though.

It's hardly a one off though, the 2008 stats are comparable to this year's, and last year's (with the exception of tackles made) weren't too far off. Surely Gidley hasn't had 3 bad years?

And that's not the impression I'm trying to make. Week in, week out he performs very well for Wigan and is a classy player IMO.

The think with Carmont is, he may not be a star centre, but he's a centre. He does what a centre's suppose to do. When you'd expect a centre to make gains or expoliot a 2 on 1, he can do it. When you'd expect a centre to be able to handle a defensive situation in his channel, he will.
He's not just a guy who's around the right size & shape for a centre with half a yard of pace (a la Ryan Atkins,) who doesn't have a clue about the actual art of playing centre.

I don't think I'm alone there.

I really think Lee Gilmour's days of playing in the centres should be over, he is starting to lose that extra yard of speed and i think he should stay in the backrow, and what a good backrow it should be next season.

That's a very good point, he isn't in the category of World Class Centres.
Perhaps my view's been skewed in the fact of what we had playing there before him at times in the few years before he arrived.
