So it's a cup but it's called a league? And it's called the "champions" league but you don't have to be a champion to be in it? That sport is a laughing stock.

And what about the Football League's promotion and relegation system, where the top two teams are autmatically promoted and the next four PLAY OFF for the remaining spot ?

Meaning that a team that potentially finishes 7th could jump somone who finished 3rd ...

I don't see too many soccer fans bleating about it, apart from Phil Neal when it happend to him.

Its very interesting the different mindsets.

I cant imagine wanting anything more than that one big game, that one last challenge, a chance to perform under pressure. The winner get the trophy, the loser leaves the country.

How can you not want that!

what about basketball? Cricket? Ice Hockey? all have a global presence

what about football in the US? Australia? Brazil?

maybe it would be easier for you to list all the major competitions, besides top tier European Association football that use a straight league format

Are there any other players out there who can string a sentance together or is Wilkin the only rent-a-gob we have?

Sample stupidity this week:

Does he think that Saints' were champions they past couple of years then?
You should read HKRs former Wigan fullback Shaun Briscoe in the League Weekly. He praises everything so much, he is embarrassing. He is the polar opposite of Jons views: maybe it's a HKR thing, as that is where we signed Mr Wilkin from. icon_twisted.gif

Because under the current fixture list teams do not have identical schedules so the league table is not a fair reflection of who has been the best team over the 27 weekly rounds.

Hence the only valid way to decide the champions under the current system is by a play-off between the top teams over those weekly rounds.

If the fixture list was 26 rounds home and away then there may be more of an argument for disposing of the playoffs.

Being a great sporting team is about both consistency and performing under pressure. The Super League system rewards teams who can do both - and that is the mark of a champion team.

Teams who can perform under pressure are rewarded in the Challenge Cup - Warrington are a good pressure side but not a consistent one - hence why they got rewarded in the CC and didn't even make the playoffs in the league.

Of course it isn't , if Celtic had won at the Magic weekend it all could have been so different icon_wink.gif

I couldn't give a rats harris about wether we have play offs or not , it is the rules at the start so those are the rules wether I like them or not , but it still is the preserve of second class sports
