Quote: BackrowSaint "Nah that Union convert allowance comes from the 'new player pool' clause. If they've played league in the past then they aren't given the allowance.'"

I didn't mean the new talent allowance, I just meant simply pay him relatively little this year, then more in following years when they've got more flexibility with other players.

Not that I think Wigan would need to, as I said they had some big players leave last year that must have freed up some space and Tomkins is joining half way through a season anyway.

Good news for the sport, if he's the player that left wigan. If he's done a Lee smith/ Karl pryce then not so good

Quote: Roy Haggerty "Who knew Wigan were carrying such a big gap under the salary cap ?
Hansen, Lauaki and Andy Powell all left the club after our last signing (Apart from a peanut earning Jordan James) came in so there's a good chunk. Add in huge earners like Sam Tomkins and Richards leaving and being replaced with cheaper options and I bet Wigan have still got room under the cap now.

That will probably be spent on upgrades for the likes of Burgess, Hampshire, Sutton, Manfredi etc.

I thought we'd all been assured by various Wigan posters that Tomkins salary only counted half for the cap for a whole variety of reasons?

Why is everyone so interested in Wigan's affairs. Its their business and they can do as they like.

Can you go and post that on the Salford Forums too, because we seem to be overwhelmed with bell-ends. Predominantly from Castleford and Warrington who are all Salford experts/Legal eagles/RL Gods/Psychics.

For those questioning salary cap regs heres a little light reading. My bet would be that Wigan have got plenty of space in their cap especially as most of their squad is homegrown for which you get more allowance.
Us Salford fans have become experts on this subject and we are always willing to spread the benefits of our wisdom.

All i say is well done to Wigan for bringing a talent back to our game.Long may it continue,Oh and can we keep Logan please.

I'd suggest you follow your own light reading icon_wink.gif the rule about the homegrown allowance comes from here
media.therfl.co.uk/docs/Policy%2 ... 202013.pdf - however due to silly "ideas" it never got voted on, and thus is yet to be implemented.

As such the only benefit Wigan can have for the amount of homegrown players is the fact that players serving over 10 years have an allowance of £50,000 combined off cap (that is if you have 2 players served over 10 years, 25k of each counts of the cap etc)

you also need to add on the £10k and £5k per player for club trained and club trained whilst there for players that are named in the Elite and Knights training squads which is still applicable for 2014

And the return of a big name back to RL. A good bit or PR for the sport. Or would you rather the big names stay in RU?

Very out of character for an RL fan to look for a negative angle on a good news story.

Another lesson to young players about the perils of switching to Union. It's folks.
