I saw Union's University final at Twikkers broadcast a couple of months back. Actually, it might have been the Oxbridge match... I can't remember I fell asleep... Also can't remember if it was on ITV4 or Sky

RL does do well here though. Is the RL Oxbridge Varsity match still broadcast on Sky?

Channel M broadcasts the Varsity match between Salford and Man Met.

How much more accessible than Freeview do you want?

The Oxbridge Union match is broadcast on Sky, but then so is Rugby League's so its even there. But apart from those and the Boat Race I think you're right.

Ok, it's free if you have a sky box, and Premier Sports are trying to get their service on Virgin too, but it won't be straight away.

Or give BBC1 a call, they might move Eastenders for Loughborough Uni v Leeds Met... Jeez, some people are never happy.

The Netball league on Sky. Is that a university league? Still, it's great news.

Varsity Match is on Sky. Channel M closed last year, which was a shame. Before cuts it did local news and sport far better than Granada.

Really? I watch music programmes on there every now and then. The coverage of RL used to be terrific for a little station. Didn't they used to have a magazine programme?

They used to show a weekly programme called Code XIII. It started off as a show just for Salford then expanded to cover the whole Manchester region but slowly the channels budget was cut and cut and cut. It was a good show by all accounts but it by airing on Fridays at 7pm when most people are either a, out at a game (Wigan and Salford both played Fridays) or b, watching the Super League build up on Sky. They also showed some pre season games prior to the 2008 season.

The final straw was the Manchester Evening News being sold last February. The then MEN owners ran the channel but the sale was for the newspaper only and didn't include the TV channel, so closure was inevitable. The heart had long gone out of the channel anyway the nearer digital switchover was coming closer. In my view the government should have supported ventures like Channel M, now that the ITV network have abandoned local television bar news bulletins. It would have been good on Freeview if it got government backing.

It was on Freeview for the Manchester area as well as cable and Satellite across Europe.

Oh right. We never got it on Freeview in Wigan.
