Its clear that the blame lies soley with Fax for picking the player. But how would this have been picked up if someone on this message board hadnt mentioned it?

If a kid cheats in an exam but the invigilator doesn't realise because he's reading a newspaper and has to be informed by another kid, the cheating kid is totally responsible for his actions and the invigilator is totally responsible for failing to do his monitoring job properly. Each have failed in their duty, each should mend their ways.
The failure of the monitoring system caused the last minute cancellation. Swinton should have been back in the cup the Monday after their tie with Fax.
Can't believe the RFL are getting away with this one. Are they seriously telling us their system is 'if someone dobs them in we'll act, otherwise we'll just sit on our hands'? It's going to take a cup-winner being retrospectively disqualified for them to make the piddling effort. to set up a spreadsheet to stop all this, isn't it... All so avoidable. Can't believe there's so few on here that can see it.

| When you submit a squad does anybody at the RFL bother to check it?
I think we should name Ronald Mcdonald and Batman in our squad this week just to see, mind you they would probably be better than half the idiots we name at the minute

Better not name mcdonald in the front row, with those big red shoes the PFU will be up in arms.

| interesting point someone on fax board made earlier. Theres 2 deadlines for registering players for cup. one early on and a 2nd one for quarter finals onwards. How did crusader manage to register sammut for their game against catalans on sunday given they didnt even announce signing until week after the previous round of the cup?
Its largely academic now as crusaders are out of cup but RFL have to be seen to treat everyone equally so crusaders could be in line for a fine too.

| Well when you read the operational rules, as always, I think it states the Board have discretion as to whether they would allow it or not....you just couldn't make it up although the RFL do regularly it seems

seems a farcical situation if true. Surely the point of having signing deadlines is that they apply to all clubs equally and can't be waived for RFL's pet project.

No, They cheated
They didn't get caught out
3 Weeks passed
A 'Fax fan spots it and mentions it
RFL wake up and go "oh b*gger" and only cancel the match 3 hours before kick off.
The fact that fax cheated isn't being disputed, the RFL being incompetant is!

A club doesn't need to have completed the signing of a player in order to register him as their player for the Challenge Cup so they could have registered him when they agreed terms with him (but were still awaiting his Visa) rather than waiting until announcing his signing (when his Visa came through) to do so.
Last season Wigan and Warrington both did this regarding Martin Gleeson and Richard Mathers. They agreed not to cup tie the players in round 4 and then each club registered the respective players before the second deadline despite the transfers not yet being completed as they knew the swap was due to take place. Once the transfers went ahead both were able to use the players in their cup campaigns.

If thats the case then fair enough. didnt realise that you can register a player for cup before the signing is completed and he's registered as your clubs player in league.
although having just read the relevent rule it states that the player has to be correctly registered and eligible to play for the club in their normal league competition. So I dont see how you can register a player for cup when they are still registered for another club in the league competition in the gleason/mathers case.
