| Quote: johnhols "What i like about the coverage is that it doesn't accentuate the negative points during a game. On Sky's coverage whenever a try is scored they always repeat any errors leading up to a try and ignore the skill involved in scoring.
There were a number of incidents in last night's game where on Sky they would have been endless repeating themselves trying to make a point, Premier's commentators get on with the job and make it pleasing to listen too.
I now look forward to the commentary rather than reach for the mute button.'"
that's just what I said during the NZ-PNG game, that they don't spend endless minutes arguing and debating something that happened 5 minutes previously and showing endless replays, they just get on with calling the game which is how it should be done imo.
sky commentary is fine until they all start jabbering away over the top of each other all trying to have their say.
voss, noble and halligan make a point, usually humorous, and move on back to whats happening on the field.
I have enjoyed their commentary more than eddie and stevo because they just call the game rather than spending half the game debating stuff.

| Wire Quin, has it occurred to you that if the commentary is also used on broadcasts to Oz/NZ that Voss might want to convey to the viewing audience things about culture/society in another country?

| It's great see ignorance in action.
May I just point out that the commentaries are worldwide so the information is not just for parochial audiences.

| They're brilliant, end of. Fans love hearing back stories about Hunslet and Workington. Gives the tournament depth and personality.
Favourite Vossy line so far?
When Sam thaiday got cleaned out in game 1:
'Wake up Sam, you're not on holiday in austria'

| Listening to Voss is like a breath of fresh air compared to the usual guff, not sure how he’d go week in, week out, year in…
Whilst Noble is obviously knowledgeable, his constant bigging up of Chase has become a little irksome.

| Quote: t-r-i-n-i-t-y "Sky's cricket commentary, and the BBC's on Test Match Special, to me, is the best out there. Everything else lags behind. Voss (and Noble) have brought a warmth to the commentary which adds a little more colour to the action. Can't see any negatives in it.'"
To be fair, Cricket lends itself to the Henry Blofeld/Bumble commentary style of chatting inane nonsense - The actual action is so stop-start that it needs the comedic element to keep the listener/viewer interested.
As for sport like ours, it doesn't need jokes, anecdotes and wacky characters, it needs an actual commentary - A description of the action has it unfurls, with a minimal analysis to guide the viewer along.... For me, the guy on the BBC (Dave Woods?) does a decent job, its just a shame he has Jiffy with his incoherent rubbish beside him - Best for me would be Shaun McRae or John Kear as analysts, who are both intelligent guys, and who importantly know when to shut up and let the commentator do his job.

To be fair he did a great job on Sky before he went to Union.
