| Once again, it’s not like we can sponge off a football club like half the teams in this league.

Maybe because we have yet to see evidence to the contrary? You’re a very bitter individual.

are you seriously trying to take some kind of moral high ground here? I've had a go at the decisions made by the club, and your terrible facilities, what I have not done is made personal comments or called anyone names.
have a go at my club and fans in general if you must but but I've been called a hag, an idiot, a sad person, and the rest - not to mention the general misogyny on show. Think its you that must try harder. This is the kind of thing seen on the terraces we are trying to get rid of. You must be so proud.
Again, what do you expect, "a free hit" ??
The article you linked to was merely a suggestion of a shared facility.
No mention of where it would be or how it would be funded ??
Neither Car or Wakefield were willing to share a ground in their opponents back yard and I'm 100% behind that.
Would you groundshare at Halifax or Bradford ?
Hence he comment about "must try harder".
You really should have looked a bit deeper into this before passing your comments.
It's not as though the "proposed" shared ground was ever more than an idea, thrown in by the local council.
Perhaps you could mention the pie in the sky article, the idea that WMDC would build Trinity a new stadium, whether Trinity chose to use it or not - that one was a beauty
This was another baseless piece of political poop but, there's been a hell of a lot of that since 2012
As for moral high ground ? not in the slightest.
It seems ridiculous that an ill informed fan of another club should try to tell people what Trinity could or could not have done, when they aren't too clear on the full facts.
Especially when the club they support has "stolen" a place from one of their rivals by some kind of "merger".
Perhaps, with hindsight, you shouldn't have poked the hornets nest

| Are Wakey fans being lectured to about their club by a fan of a club which:
Murdered another, successful and important club to avoid relegation
Was gifted a share in a new, primarily soccer, stadium which they could never have afforded any other way
Lose millions of pounds year after year but are fortunate to be underwritten by a very rich man
A bit of humility, empathy or even self-awareness would be in order you'd think.

| Deary me. You had an opportunity to groundshare, calling it baseless is absolutely laughable as it had about as much credibility as anything else mooted in the last 10 years clearly. Nothing else has actually materialised in the last decade of empty promises so of equal credibility as the promise of a brand spanking new stadium. Instead you just buy back the old one, stick up a couple of second hand bus shelters, get rid of some old porta cabins and maybe replace them with some newer ones- but we will still be using them to p*ss in. And the view will still be shocking. No amount of personal insults is going to change that fact- although it might help you deflect some of the shame you ought to feel and project it elsewhere. Good job I’m a big girl and don’t go running to the mods isn’t it.
Your behaviour on this board just reinforces what I see on the crumbling terraces from the fans at wakey. (Well you can’t see much of the game) What is there to like?

Without getting into pretty name calling… this is an interesting article… and requires more unpacking than I have the time or patience for… but hindsight gives a little context to the report…
1) at this time trinity were attempting to seal a deal which involved a section 106 agreement which would see private funding for the construction of a stadium and sundry community sports facilities as part of a development at Newmarket lane.. this required some green belt land to be released for the development and required Secretary of State approval.. this was granted in the light of the community facilities… (bear in mind that at the time Belle Vue was owned by the Bank of Ireland who weren’t interested in being sporting landlords)
2) Castleford were perusing their own development in the Gasshoughton area of Castleford and had advanced negotiations in place
3) neither involved council funding (to any great extent) but required council support in planning and facilities (roads power etc) however the leader of Wakefield council decided to promote that the two clubs should share a facility and that facility should be in Castleford… the outcome of the removal of Trinity from the City would have been a slow death as (anecdotally) most fans suggested they would not follow the club away from the city. (It is worth noting that the leader of Wakefield Council at the time was s Castleford shareholder) Trinity countered by offering a share at Newmarket
4) the council ( under guidance) decided that the advice of the SOS should not be followed and failed to put in place a legally binding 106 agreement for the Newmarket development and stadium complex… preferring a unilateral agreement … the developer drove a fleet of buses through this agreement and decided not to build the stadium… despite building the rest of the development on the newly reclassified ‘green belt’
5) further, the council.. were unwilling or unable to hold the developer to account… it also seems that a senior ( and supposedly independent) advisor to the club, had strong links to the developer and allegedly further undermined the Trinity Clubs attempts a recompense (under the new ownership) until all influence by this individual was severed.
Ultimately the Trinity club have managed to use the previous planning arrangements for a new stadium to secure a genuine 106 agreement and funding for the development of the East Stand and North Terrace at Belle Vue… in return for releasing the stadium land for other development… not perfect and certainly not just… but there it is… work starts in July
The stadium in Castleford mentioned in the article never reached a stage where construction and funding was feasible.. and has not been built (the council would never have funded a full build)… Castleford are now pursuing a redevelopment of their traditional home ground and potential funding packages… I wish them well.
These probably and economic, social, psychological, business and politics thesis to be written somewhere here and I’m only unpacking a small part of the story… but I hope it helps understanding rather that cat fighting

| Shock horror I should take offence at personal name calling. And still you are at it. But it’s somehow me that’s accused of vitriol.
No I don’t like your club, not keen on Leeds Hull or Wire either. But only you poor wakey fans make it personal.
Carry on covering yourselves in glory. This is the best your club has to offer.
I’ll leave it there and let you all have the last word. You will like that.

Quote: jools "you mean the merger we were forced into by the RFL? funny how hull never get the same stuff levelled at them though.'"
because the truth hurts
JOHN KEAR has described his season at Huddersfield as a ‘very unhappy time and one of the lowest periods’ in his coaching career.
When the Giants merged with Sheffield Eagles in 1999, Kear was charged with the task of making the combined club a major Super League force.
But in his newly-released book ‘Coaching is Chaos, but they were the dominant partner in every respect, as illustrated by the name.
“In August, they played Castleford at Bramall Lane and only 2,102 fans turned up. It was announced after that there would be no more matches in Sheffield, which I am sure was the plan all along. I say ‘they’ because I had moved on by then.
“The ‘merger’ was confirmed on September 30, 1999 and I left the club on July 13 the following year. It was a very unhappy time and one of the lowest periods of my coaching career.
“I wasn’t able to appoint my own staff, both Steve Deakin and Simon Worsnop were released and I was told I had to take Huddersfield assistant Phil Veivers and their conditioner Trevor Commons.
“When the merger was announced I should have walked away. I stayed put and lived to regret it.
“The cultures at the Eagles and Giants were very different.
“Gary Hetherington is a tough task master and always very careful with his cash.
“His legacy was that players at Sheffield tended to be overworked and under-paid, whereas it was the opposite at Huddersfield.
“An example: In my first-choice team I had Darren Turner on the bench, with Johnny Lawless as my starting hooker.
“The third rake in the organisation was Danny Russell, who was retained from Giants’ previous squad. Johnny and Rocky’s payments combined were less than what Danny Russell was on.
“Johnny, who is someone I like a lot, pulled me to one side about that and made it clear he wasn’t happy. I had every sympathy for him.
“The squad was divided into a number of cliques, there were the ex-Sheffield and ex-Huddersfield players, plus an overseas group and another who travelled over together from St Helens.
“Getting everybody to mix was really difficult and the gulf in wages among some of the players only added to the problems.
“I did try to put structures and systems in place and I think that was a minor success. After I left, Tony Smith came over from Australia to take the post and he complimented me on the job I had done there.
“In League and Cup, I was in charge for 19 games and we lost all but three of them, including a run of 10 straight defeats at one stage.
“You live and learn and I think the tough experiences I had at Shuddersfield made me a better coach.
“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and I am a firm believer that reflective learning – learning from experience – is the best method of education.”
