He is a great player, I have acknowledged that as have the majority of people on this post. You have said that he is undeniably the best player in the competition though, which you have then contradicted by suggesting it could be Walmsley.
For what it’s worth, I think Walmsley is better. Sam Tomkins is still the premier player in the competition for me though. I won’t say that is undeniable though, because it is just my opinion.
However, happy to be proven wrong when the season starts.

That's the Sky TV influence. They hype a player up (Usually because Phil Clarke's brother is their agent) and everyone suddenly regards them as a superstar. Toby King is one that springs to mind. Had a few good games, got built up as the reincarnation of Paul Newlove by Sky, got his new contract and went back to being Mr Average.
Tomkins also had a decent two or three games last year and got hyped up to the nines. He had no impact in multiple games and still got 3 MOS points because the games weren't televised. Lachlan Coote is a better player than Sam Tomkins and unquestionably the best back in Super League (Apart from Jack Welsby). He could win MOS next year at Hull KR as there won't be as much competition for points from his own team.
I think the bookies have it right having Tomkins outside the top 15 for MOS betting for next year.

It's always been like that. Often good players anyway but then with astonishing sky hype piled on top. Danny Maguire, a great lad and fabulous support player was elevated to some sort of world beating genius. We started to call him "The Lord Maguire" in recognition of his new status.

How do you know he had no impact if the games weren't televised?

I assume then, that you think they have it right having Knowles barely scraping into the top 20 for MOS next year?

So Coote who is unquestionably the best back apart from Welsby (how does that work)?

It has nothing to do with Sky, it is my opinion, as clearly stated. Often, people can watch a sport and enjoy someone’s performance who doesn’t play for their team and award credit where it’s due. It doesn’t happen often, although this is a direct example. I have no prejudice or agenda, I just think that he is the best player in the competition. Coote is a decent player, but is not the best back. Neither is Welsby, or he would have played more. Not to say Welsby might not become the best, but last year, in my opinion, Tomkins was significantly better than both.
Now… Just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean that I’m wrong. Pull your head out of your backside and stop acting like a child.

Cust is a good shout. Wigan are bang average. There isnt one player in that team that would get anywhere near St Helens team. Even the bottle smasher looks woefully average now he hasnt got Canberras pack around him.
That said. Wigan have always been greater than the sum of their parts and will win a lot of games so Cust will in all likelihood be the one that stands out so will probably get the 3 mos points every week.
Its a flawed system, but it is what it is.

| No one is deranged. Everyone on here is lovely because it is Christmas. Maybe meet between the trenches, have a game of touch and pass and then if you really have to you can recommence hating one another in 2022?
